Some spoilers. Edited to add: he really should've become a therapist instead because that motive I would understand. We wouldn't exactly have a film franchise if his ways were 100% understandable, though. Jigsaw having his main motive of tormenting victims in order to make them more grateful to be alive doesn't completely hide his other motive. If it weren't for the variety of victims with their various shortcomings and occupations he'd be a serial killer targeting those with substance abuse issues considering what happened to his ex wife at the clinic. He still kills people. Not all of his traps are survived and that some of his disciples do his bidding in a way that ends up killing people intentionally even if it's for a can't get caught reason. I feel like that last bit undermines his main motive. I was disappointed, yet unsurprised with Amanda. Don't get me started on the others even when they did end the lives of those who had lived to make others suffer. Torture leads to trauma even when there's the whole I survived and it's over now. Grateful isn't always the response one has to getting to live after seeing others around them die.

I’ve said it so many times but I’m a firm believer that John Kramer is broken and not pure evil. He is self righteous and an asshole, but he was dealt a very hard hand in life. He had cancer, lost his unborn child, his wife left him, and he attempted suicide but survived. If you watch Saw X it’s very clear that he is actually a very human and sympathetic character, going as far as to risk dying so an innocent child wouldn’t. He also gets visibly upset when Cecilia kills Gabriela. People who disagree either haven’t seen all the movies or just didn’t look that much into his character.

The best, and most sympathetic part, of the Candyman, IMO, is something you left out: His description of his killing spree as an obligation.
You are not content with the stories. So I was obliged to come.
Granted, few people are forced to do something as horrific as confirm our existence through bloodshed. But we can all relate to having to do things we would much rather not. And were all of us in the Candyman's position, I would like to think we would all pray to God we are never obliged to confirm our existence in such a gruesome way too.

The horror villain I sympathize with most is Matt Cordell from the Maniac Cop franchise. A good cop whose methods are a bit excessive at times is unjustly imprisoned and later killed in prison by some of the inmates that he arrested. Rather than target the inmates, he frames police and painting them as untrustworthy. Then during the St. Patrick's Day parade in NYC, he decides to take his bloody vengeance out on those who wronged him. If you want to find out the fate of those inmates, watch the sequel.

Meanwhile at the bates motel:
Norman: bestie why aren’t we on the list
Hannibal Lecter: I mean you had Oedipus complex, and I had an auntie complex.
Norman: that’s what I mean!
Gage: what are you guys talking about
Norman: yep that’s it, you REALLY should have been on this list
Annie Wilkes: Norman’s right, you had the saddest death in horror movie history and became a villain.
Gage: that’s acceptable
Damien: can we eat now
Norman: ok

I sympathised with jigsaw until he took on Amanda as his apprentice. When you drag somone else into your own values, you blur the line between revenge and just outright premeditation for murder, no matter how many ways you want to cut it. he murdered them by creating the means for their deaths and entrapment. Justification for the traps got less and less the more the series went on

Mrs. Voorhees definitely deserves a spot on here. Losing a child is unbearable. Her grief and anger drove her insane. Even though she went way too far attacking people who had nothing at all to do with it. Ignore the sequels and it's definitely sad. An innocent little boy dying due to neglect and his mom losing her mind because she couldn't handle it.

Billy Loomis became one of my few favorite Ghostface killer characters in the franchise.
His motive made more sense indeed, but we all know that killing few innocent people won’t solve anything, no matter how angry, traumatized, or crazy you are, plus infidelity is still one of the biggest issues in both real-life and fiction.

Billy Loomis (18-year-old) & Stu Macher (18-year-old) from the first Scream’ movie.
For Billy, his then-girlfriend’s promiscuous mom slept with Billy’s dad who was a married man for over 17 years, and made Billy’s mom Nancy Loomis moved out and abandoned him.
For Stu, peer pressure. He was far too sensitive.

I Sleepaway Camp. ’
It’s been over 40 years though.
The fictional youth survivor of the boating accident who became a crazed, vengeful killer.
All 9 people got brutally killed, including the toxic teenage girl named Judy; camp owner Mel; and the cheating boyfriend Paul.

I would also recommend Jason Voorhees himself for being a drowned child, Norman Bates who was protective over his mom, leprechaun for protecting his pot of gold, Andre Toulon who's wife was killed in the puppet master franchise from Nazi's and Cujo the dog who got rabies.
reply

Y'all are so wrong for including Billy Loomis in this. It would be one thing if he exacted revenge on Sydney, and killed everyone who stood between them as a by-product, but let's not forget he didn't have much reason to murder Casey Becker other than wanting to.
reply

Wait, about the whole Candyman movie.
I haven't seen it, but I have seen reviews and people talking about it on TikTok.
With that being said, his backstory was that he was attacked by white people.
Why would he attack black people when he's summoned

reply

I'm glad John Kramer was on here. I felt like such a psychopath for sympathizing with him since he's a psyhco. I don't condone it but I get it. He teaches those not to take life for granted and punished those who are selfish and don't care about others.

I felt sorry for Pamela mainly. A mother’s love is deeper than any stab to anyone who harms her beloved child. I get a lot of caretaking love from my mom and I can relate to why Jason’s believed drowning made Pamela’s sanity snap.
reply

I feel like Jason and Pamela could’ve been a combined entry. She kills due to grieving his death and he kills because he thinks the teens at Crystal Lake are the ones who killed his mother. They both have understandable motives.
reply

Red: Understandable.
The tethered are still doppelgangers that would kill the original people.
For Daniel, it should've gotten him to go after the descendants or go after the landlord around still the time period.

reply

The Friday the 13th clips you used were from Fri. the 13th Part 7: The New Blood instead of the OG 1980 film also for when it said Scream (1996) in the same part. I'm guessing this was a mistake made in editing (I hope.
