Hairdressers guide to cutting a wolf cut/ shag and not ruining your hair Marijka: I have a TON of coarse, bra-band length hair and have to turn way upside down to do a high pony, can't fight gravity. I also prefer shorter at the front instead of on top, so I actually do the unicorn-pony at the top of my forehead, but still direct the hair almost straight up to cut it. Oh, and I wear a semi-side part and it still looks great with all those layers! I've cut and colored my own hair since age 12 (hard to mess up with all this hair, even went to barber school, and this is honestly the easiest way to cut your hair at home -- trying to get balanced layers on the non-dominant side of your hair by cutting with standard sectioning is freaking HARD!

I love how enthusiastic and upbeat you are! How does the wolf cut work with naturally curly/wavy hair? My hair is fine and thin and quite curly (corkscrew curls at the ends, wavy higher up. Do you have a tutorial for cutting naturally curly/wavy hair? I've been cutting my own hair (badly) since ca. 2000. I got fed up with hair stylists telling me they knew how to cut curly hair, then proceeding to butcher my hair because they had no clue. I figured if I was going to have a brutally bad haircut, I might as well get it for free rather than pay a stylist $75 (that's what I was paying in 2000; I imagine it's much more expensive now.

Here I am after a long time deliberating whether I should do this but I have to say - THIS IS THE HAIRCUT IVE BEEN ASKING MY HAIRDRESSERS FOR. I've always felt a little shamed when I've asked for lots of layers and for it to be really choppy, and to have short layers at the back also so my naturally thick and way hair bounces up. They always say we don't want it to look mulletly though do we. I clam up and just go with it but I've just done this cut by myself and I adore it. Exactly what i want. My hair looks amazing! So light, bouncy and the waves are just

I just did this cut and it turned out beautifully! I adjusted the technique a bit, though. I started by cutting a small strand to chin length as a guage for my big cut. Then I did the rest of it in the shower with the water running over my hair (this helps me get a straighter cut. I pulled everything except my small precut strand into a ponytail as close to my forehead as possible, then made an even cut across. Pulling the ponytail so far forward gave me some real nice face-shaping without the extra step. And everything is even on both sides.

You're my hero! I have followed the other tutorial as well about cutting own hair, results were fine but cause my hair is too long I got tired.
This is much easier I tried this today, so easy, so quick. I have longggg hair, it was so easy cannot still believe.
Love the results! You just won a forever fan! My favourite tutorial ever and what I am always gonna follow! THANK YOU

I followed this tutorial and bought the hair cutting scissors and hair thinning shears and it turned out amazing! I have curly hair and it added so much shape and volume to my hair. I went pretty extreme with it too haha. Cut off a lot of hair. I'm gonna save so much money on hair cuts because this wolf cut is staying for a while.

I did it with kitchen scissors I'm not disappointed though but the way that my hair curls you can't tell if my layers are even or not or at least I can't so it's good enough for me and a lot better than my local barber shops. But definitely not better than a professional hairstylist which I need really bad but can't afford

I've cut and layered my own curly hair my entire 30+ years of life. Wondering if this is an easier, less complicated way to do it. Idk, the complicated way is easier and well-practiced. I obviously own all the proper equipment, but never done anything that requires a ponytail. Ponders.

Question. so I've left my hair to grow out over the pandemic. I'm going white pretty early, and a lot of my hair has been falling out. Like. lots. My hair is noticably thinner than it used to be. What should I do about it? Is this normal?
The cut made it look a lot better at least.

I wish I knew how to post a photo in these comments! Of all the videos I researched, Brad's seemed the most simple and straightforward. It took me less than 20 minutes to achieve this cut and it turned out SO SO NICE. I have no hair training, so I highly recommend this video.

I think the combination of my oddly shaped head and my extremely thick hair threw this cut off a little. I ended up having to add another pony tail created layer around the center back of my hair. I then got everything thinned out with the razor scissors and it helped so much.

My loving husband, who does NOTHING with his long hair except wash and brush it (and yes, I had to teach him how to properly brush his hair) followed this tutorial and successfully gave me an awesome, long-hair wolf cut. Brad Mondo wolf cut tutorial. 5 out of 5 stars.
