In high school and I did a successful cap highlight! My best friend did them for me (Im 28 now) and they came out really really good. and funny enough she (the best friend that did my hair) is actually is one of the best stylists in my area now! Shes a blonde/balayage specialist. & Shes amazing. So maybe thats why it came out so good, lol. We were only like 16 at the time!

The cap, aka a Mesh, was sapposed to be used for short messy hair styles. Where as foils are for exact color placement.
If using a cap, dont use those cheap bonnet ones, there is a cap that is similar to thick skin, made of rubber it will protect your hair from bleeding. Caps are pure torture and should be eliminated from our industry. She did wayyy too much work.

I did cap highlights on my son when he was a teen. It turned out very nice. I think because he has lighter brown hair with auburn highlights that are natural is the reason it maybe worked so well. His hair was short also so it was easy to pull through those lil ol holes in the cap. It sure made the girls at school happy lol

I imagine that the reason this never goes well is because this is probably how boys in the 90s and early 00s got their frosted tips. Maybe it works better with shorter hair? I would imagine that this technique is pretty dated by now.

Ive gotten the cap done at the salon and it turned out really cute! But my hair is also a mix of a bunch of colors, so the blending was super smooth. I have no complaints, but I guess an at-home attempt could be disastrous

Brad, heat from the scalp is not the only reason why hair lightens faster, the keratin is softer when it grows out from the scalp and hardens the further it grows, leaving the mid section and ends more challenging to lift.

Mix the formula thicker, so that it doesnt bleed onto the roots. Also, throw away that plastic hook, and buy a metal crochet hook, so much easier. Been doing hair since 1988, and cap highlights can be really nice.

My natural hair I'd red Andy natural old lady hair is white and I love it. Next to my red it's highlights great but I want to show my white even more? Can I do a glaze to just grab the white and enhance it?

Anyone else notice the last girl took her dyed highlight strands out of the cap and then proceeded to put the same dye on the rest of her hair? No wonder it doesnt look any different

I have had great cap highlights as a kid but my mom is a hair dresser and she did it when I was in middle school. I wouldnt do it now but we do things different in 2022.

Why do women with long hair always keep it in a ponytail? Just cut your hair short where you would put the ponytail and then your hair won't have a built in bump?

I had almost white hair and then I died it cappuccino brown and the to turned out orangeish and brown at the bottom its from box die and it looks so cute I love it
