Hairdresser reacts to box braiding videos Lillian: Black person here! Im gonna answer some questions!
Does it hurt?
No actually! If you get it done with the right person, youll be just fine. Sometimes it hurts for a bit, but your scalp gets used to it pretty quick.
Is it heavy?
No! Well, depending on the type of hair you use. Certain hairs are especially sought after because theyre light, some others are heavier.
Do your fingers hurt?
Not really, if youre used to it, no. But like anything, the more you do it, the more you get used to it!
I recommend looking up black hair types sometime! It can help on giving some insight into the black hair community! There are different kinds like 4C, 2B, and so on so forth. They are determined by hair characteristics like shrinkage, coil tightness, texture, stuff like that. Dont be afraid to ask questions!
(And yes, its extremely common to weave in color, bands, beads, accessories, and make your braids extremely long)
Hope this was helpful! :D

Oh yeah, braiding is quite something. Some people here even do micro braids they are even smaller. We got tons of styles. Sometimes you can sit for a day, or you have multiple people braiding your hair then you dont have to sit for too long. Very very popular. And yeah we change them up a lot. After they grow out its normal to go, get your hair washed, steamed and new braids installed. Hot water is to seal the braids and seal the ends in a way. And a lot of the hair now used for braiding can be made wavy after braiding the braids into a braid (lol) it and dipping that braid into hot water and i when you unbraid it the braids will be wavy. Some people have styles that can be worn for months on end. They just repair the front ones and on the back.

There was this time that i went to get my hair braided and the ladys DAUGHTER (keep in mind she is about 12) LITERALLY STARTS BRAIDING AWAY and it looked SO PROFESSIONAL. I could never
Also after finishing the video and seeing what Candice did, i just wanna clarify that it takes just about half the time to take out your braids because you have to take it out, detangle it, and wash it. Then shes gonna have to rebraid and do it all over again. It takes alot of time because i have went to the salon before to get a certain style done and it took from 8am to just about 6: 30pm-7: 00pm which i think is insane commitment (this is also the time that the girl helped her mom do my hair.

I don't even know what I am, black or white. my mother was born veryyyyyyyy black and then went to Spain and Got veeeerrrrry white and she has curly hair and my father is romanian and has dark white skin and straight hair so I was born white but I got black real quick because I stayed outside a lot so I got tanned but normally I am white. because my. ass is white. because of clothing, that was embarrassing but anyway I have very wavy hair more curly and the strange part is I have some strands of straight hair I think that is from my father. :)

After awhile you get used to it and it doesn't hurt, but if your tender headed like me it's a struggle for me and whoever else does my hair that props to my mom and aunties for not quitting and giving up on me and everyone else who they do there hair. Also yeah you have to comb the whole hair piece out and again if your tender headed like me it's a a struggle for me and everyone else who does my hair and true props for my mom and aunties again.

I'm a mixed individual, and I recently had some BEAUTIFUL tribal braids done they went down to around my butt but I loved them so much. I've always hated my hair and my family has always made me straighten it, but recently they've been okay with braids. I say there for 6. 5 hours but it was so worth it. the head does hurt after wards personally for me for about a day or two. I love black hair culture and I can't wait to get it redone.

I get really irritated with white people who like trivialising Black hair. The same hairstyles are vilified by wannabe white supremacy world.
Black hair is our crown and he doesn't to comment on anything he has no idea about. Gay white men like copying Black Women which is just annoying at times.
The Black Race are only ones who has actual HAIR. Other races have Neanderthal DNA and FUR look it up.

I HAVENT SEEN MICROS SINCE 2008! My cousin got some for her prom with the top braided and the bottom loose and like shoulder length. She was ready to get them out soon after. Took them days just to take them out. I remember some people have headaches after they are put in because of the tightness.

In my country there is a region that only rock that tiny braids they use needles to section the hair and two to thre people braid one persons hair at a time when making small braids it makes the process easier and faster you can get your perfect hair done within one, two or three hours nothing more.

After having your scalp tugged on and pulled and stressed out its extremely tough of the scalp almost like a full body work out. so essentially what the foam does is help relax and soothe your scalp after all of that work. it helps relieve tension build up in the crown during the process

Yes it hurts and same for corn rows for weaves but it eases after a few days but worth it. Its like a face lift. The hot water seals the ends to stop it unravelling. Before hot water synthetic hair used to be sealed at the ends with a lighter but used to burn your fingers.

to answer your question, it can hurt depending on how gentle the braider moves your hair. some stylists are heavy handed, some are not. it can also depend on the sensitivity of your scalp. so, for the most part (or in your case, it may be more likely to hurt.

When I was little I used to try to braid my hair as small as me I possibly could. I remember even trying to attempt just 3 strands. I dunno. That 2nd clip made me think of that.
I feel like I got arthritis or something just watching this. . damn.

The micro braids arent great for the tension/weight that the long braid puts on individual hair strands. Larger braids/parts are better to spread out the tension on the scalp. People that get small tight braids often can damage their scalp
