Should you become a hairstylist? Octavia: i recently worked at a salon as an apprentice for a year and a half within the first month i realised the boss was horrible and had made so many apprentices lose their passion for hair and quit. she took a massive toll on my mental health but i wanted to stick it out to finish my apprenticeship. i was having panic attacks nearly every training day because i knew if i didn't do the hair perfectly i would be screamed at and bullied even though i was supposed to be learning she wanted me to get it perfect on the first try every time. i was crying on the way home almost every day. she bullied the way i look my style and my weight because it didn't fit the aesthetic of how she wanted the salon mind u she was in her 60's and would rock up to work with her hair all over the place and horrible makeup she wanted her stylists to be skinny and perfect all natural whereas i have tattoos and a few piercings i wasn't even allowed to have my hair coloured anything other than natural, i understand that is how some salons are but i asked in the interview if i was allowed to have facial piercings and tattoos and the buisness owner who interviewed me said it was perfectly fine and that he thought it was an expression of personality. she would make me wear lipstick and made me lie about my age to clients to hide the fact i was an apprentice. i basically starved myself refusing to eat at the salon scared she was going to pick on me for eating. the only reason i stayed was because the other hair stylists there were incredible the salon was very well known and i knew i would get a great cliental. eventually i had lost my entire personality i became like a shell of a person on auto pilot just doing everything to avoid confrontation with the boss. i wish i had quit there sooner but i didn't and ended up having to take a massive step back from hairdressing and just go to hairdressing school full time it has taken me months to get back into hairdressing and I'm still too scared to go back to work in a salon again. I'm hoping becoming fully qualified through school will help me gain my confidence back.

I just read the title and in my mind when i saw the should you be a hairdresser i just responded with no I'm 13 idk why I thought that was funny probably because its 2am for me and I was trying to get my sleep schedule together so I will basically laugh at most things so yeah I'm also planning on cutting my hair probably tonight or tomorrow so idk first I have to brush it and then I probably just going to be to tired and go to sleep ok already really tired but i really wanna cut my hair I have been waiting for months for my mom to get me a haircut and I'm not kidding I have actually been waiting for over 5 months so at this point I'm very fed up and just wanna cut my hair but I want a short like really short hair style I have only cut my hair 3 times and it only was cut to like the shoulders when i cut it so I kinda nervous to cut my hair so I'm probably just going to wait but maybe I won't who knows I don't

I have been thinking of becoming a hairstylist recently. I don't have money at the moment so I'm just gonna get a job first, and then apply to a trade school. I'm only 19 years old but I feel very passionately about hair I always have in my life, and since I started dying my hair for the first time about a year ago it intrigued me even further! I'm currently growing out my natural hair because I hate my bleached washed up faded hair and during this time I just began to learn so much just by watching your videos! But since the pandemic started I began to cut my own hair, and trim my own bangs and I've gotten really good at trimming my bangs: D. I just feel like it could be the life for me. But I can't afford an expensive school either, and I pretty much have unsupportive parents since I moved out recently. But this is my time to be independent, your videos always inspire me!

I agree with everything that he said, and to add one more thing: If you expect to make good money in this career, you have to look the part. If you want to roll out of bed, and go to work in sweat pants without doing your own hair, what makes Me think that you can take care of MY hair! However, if you get out of bed, and shower and do your hair, then you'll have a better chance of building a stable Clientelle. Remember you are your own advertisement. I've worked in this field for 25 years, and I've seen many new Stylists come into the Salon looking like they're going to a baseball game, not that's there's anything wrong with that, but a Salon is a business, and we sell beauty; keep that in mind.

Heyo! Brand new licensed stylist here to say you are very correct and this industry isnt for everyone! I just started at a walk-in and I want to very quickly walk out. Its been discouraging with how slow it is and Im wanting to do bridal hair instead of cuts. Thank you for being an advocate for this topic bc so many people have chosen this career recently and they should know what it takes before starting! Love you and keep creating Brad, we need you!

I've been binge watching all your videos lately and I love you and your videos. Your style, your energy, your passion is a whole ass vibe. You have made me realize that something I have always been semi curious about doing for a career (being a hair stylist) is definitely something I feel even more passionate about than I realized until watching you. Thank you for inspiring me. Thank you for being you. You're a rockstar

one reason I've always thought about being a hairdresser is because I don't think any of the salons in my small town do color, so most teens are left either doing it themselves, and ruining it, or the spend money on gas and go out of town. Usually the former. I want to be the stylist that can do that for those teens that use their hair to express themselves while keeping its integrity

Thank you for reminding everyone that they dont need to spend a fortune to get licensed. Every program is dialed in to getting their students to pass their exams, so spend as little as you need to because your real education starts in a salon. Remember, its okay to fire a client. When youre good you get to choose who your clients are. If you have a client whos never happylet them go!

I want to be a hairstylist before this video. I always knew I wanted to do something creative and when I was able to start looking for a career I used my judgy SIL and she always said crap when I tested my skills on her but the only thing I did and was happy even when she was being a b was when I did her hair so I'm studying now.

i'm majoring in barber/styling and start in the fall of 2022! i am so so so excited and LOVE your videos. it is truly where i found my desire for the career. my college does not supply us with a kit for classes. you may not see this but if you do could you do a barber school kit type video! i'm lost at where to start!

A woman called Morgan Donner here on YT recently tried 500 years of haircuts on her hair, and cuts shorter as she goes through the eras, to end from very long (booty length) with a pixie cut and then a shaved head. it is a pretty popular video here and I would for one love a reaction video on it. It is awesome!

I am currently studying art to be a painter but hairdressing just passionates me so much! It's my plan B, I've been cutting my friends', family's and my own hair since like 2014 but not having a solid education limitates me a lot. I learn a lot from your videos btw! Let's see how this turns out, wish me luck!
