Do we still need iodized salt? (wtf even is it) Andrei: I was really hoping you would talk about how too much iodine did harm. For example a lot of people in the ex communist bloc were given large supplies of iodine tablets and were advised to consume a lot of salt because of the Chernobyl distaster but some countries didnt actually need those measures and got iodine poisoning which is a trend which still goes even today in eastern european countries.

Alright so I don't know what the conditions of the study were or what precisely I'm supposed to say when I'm told I can't taste a difference that I do taste, but I switched to kosher salt because Morton iodized tasted metallic, always has.
Maybe crystal shape impacts flavor? Maybe some sort of anticaking agent is responsible, I don't know. But the two salts in my cabinet do not taste the same

After Chernobyl Poland (and probably other countries) had gave out recommendations to visit the sea and to eat more fish and iodised salt to combat post-radiation illnesses and poisoning. Dunno if it was helpful but it is something I heard about from my mom or grandma years ago and this video sparked a memory

I heard the only salt you can get in Brazil is iodized salt. Not sure if true. I use iodized table salt from time to time, if I think something needs more salt after cooking. Another interesting thing to note is that iodized salt can't be used for lacto-fermentation (so stick to iodine-free salt for that)

I'll pass if i have issues and doctor tells me my levels are low I'll find a natural source. Or even take it from a pill (kalp pill. I don't really like goverments playing with my food. thought i do understand. I just wish they educated humans more so we could just do stuff correctly out self.

Gonna be honest Adam, as someone who is very concerned about teeth and usually notices crooked or discolored teeth I've been watching you for a very long time and not once have I even looked at your teeth lol, you have no need to be self conscious abt em.

I'm curious why kosher salt isn't routinely iodized.
(Iodine might not have a noticeable flavor, but the anti-caking agents Morton uses definitely do. The other major brand (Diamond Something) doesn't use those agents, which is why I prefer it)

People on the coasts are probably ok
Me, a person who recently moved from coastal Florida to Michigan: huh, well I wonder how Michigan is for iodine
Me a minute later: whelp. It's a good thing I added iodized salt back to my diet

Hey Adam I gotta say that I loved the change of scenery. The beach was super pretty and the audio was perfect.
Also, now I'm going to look for an iodized flakey salt. Let us know if you find a good one you like!

As part of treatment for thyroid cancer, my dad had to go on an iodine free diet. Let me tell you, it's funny calling a company to ask if they use iodized salt and they have no clue! It's become so ubiquitous.
