Wow, the turnip hate going on here In Germany the turnip used to be a widely used traditional vegetable. Even though you can still buy it almost everywhere in Germany, you hardly ever find it on a restaurant menu. There are some chefs who focus on regional cuisine who've re-introduced the turnip, but other than that it seems to have developped a poor animal fudder kind of image. My grandma used to make a very flavourful turnip one-pot which, if I remember it correctly, was based on a beef broth and featured few ingredients and spices, among which where speck, potatoes, and parsley. It's a great vegetable, simple but deep, if you treat it thoughtfully, that is. Also, it's flavourful enough to feature in a vegetarian one-pot, or a mash even (mixed with potatoes. Long live the turnip

I must admit I always use leeks instead of onions and add mushrooms and Stead of carrots in my chicken pie. I always buy more leaks than I need for the recipe and then chop and freeze what I don't use. So when I'm in a rush I just had a bag frozen leeks to the chicken instead of onions. I use small mushrooms halfed because they are quicker to prepare and carrots or turnip. Either use frozen peas or frozen sweetcorn depending on what I've got in the freezer at the time. I always seem to be in a rush when it comes to mealtimes.

So no one's ask8ng why Molly couldn't cook a rotisserie chicken herself or stew a few prices of chicken or baking or grilling. Whayever. but make your own chicken. I'm scared of her. she didn't use carrots. I can't trust people that dnt like carrots. and can't cook their own chicken. I'm not a turnip fan. and Molly is super obnoxious with the shade. lol. she better get her skills down packed she's got a ring on. and men like to eat. and eat well.

I definitely think there shouldve been celery and there not a lot but a decent amount -Carrots go well with it the introduction of some turn up wouldve been nice to jazz it up but traditionally I think this was totally wrong and I will say I love Molly I think shes great but I have to give this recipe or thumbs down

The belongs in this dish because of the flavour it has to contribute. The common combination of chicken soups flavour is carrot onion and celery, and thats what chicken pot pie imitates so I feel like the carrot is necessary. You could add turnips as well as keep the carrots

I agree with Carla that turnips aren't really a sub for carrots in the typical sense, but I agree with Molly too that turnips are freaking amazing. In my opinion, why not swap carrot for parsnip? They hold their shape better than carrots and have a taste similar to carrot as well.

Would it be really too much to ask to just cook the carrots for a shorter amount of time in order for them to hold their shape more? There. Problem solved. And the pie has the colour that carrots provide, and also the taste of carrots, which in a chicken pot pie, is classic.

You ditched carrots but kept peas? :'(Was parsnip considered as a sub for carrot & turnip, or does it get too soft, too, in your opinion? Also seems like a TON of cream, instead of less cream and some broth for liquid. Was that simply b/c of the 10 ingredient limitation?

I don't like turnips. Sorry. But other than THAT. .. a lovely idea. I have 0 interest in making pie crusts etc. which is why I don't make my own chix pot pies. This would be fun to do cuz of the short cuts. Great idea. I will make this at some point. Thanx

I'm all for trying new things, but turnips taking the place of carrots in a chicken pot pie is a no. Sorry i live in PA dutch country and cant imagine eating this without carrots or potatoes. Turnips instead of potatoes makes a bit more sense to me.
