Recreating Roy Choi's Carne Asada Tacos From Taste Bon Apptit

lWe challenged resident Bon Apptit super taster Chris Morocco to recreate Roy Choi's carne asada Tacos recipe using every sense he has other than sight. Was he up to the challenge? ThisIsMyFullName: These recipes are pretty much impossible to get 100% right, as in a complex recipe there will always be main flavours, secondary flavours and then flavours that aren't tastable, but rather support the main and secondary flavours of the dish. Having said that, it's always great to watch Chris as he's got an amazing palate.

It is an incredibly vulnerable thing to stand there with a mask, and I think that Chris deserves major credit for not losing it when people sneak up on him. Also Chris, just know that as an audience member, I'm rooting for you to win the whole time. And this task was impossible To be able to parse out specific ingredients for a salsa, let alone the marinade? Good onya

When Molly called him at the store for oyster crackers was the most Jersey Shore moment. When I saw the salsa ingredients list and thought, Why do you hate Chris? And then I saw, skirt steak and I thought, OMG UR SO EVIL But, if Brad Leone ever sneaks up behind me and blows on the back of my neck, my response will be completely different.

He did great considering the ingredients. Like the man has the credit he deserves. Also, one suggestion. Since he added a pre-made hot sauce, you could tick some of the ingredients that the hot sauce already has, cause he technically got it right (jalapeno, vinegar, pepper etc)

before i really was a fan of BA shows, i watched a gourmet makes ep where chris appeared and he seemed like a mean boss and i was like ew i don't like him but NOW i cannot imagine my life without our collective dad, christachio morrachio

Chris giving himself a pep talk Im not gonna freak out about this. This does not define me, then turning to Sohla This ones really hard. I dont mean to like complain but its just a really, really tricky one. I love him.

Id really like to know how they score each ingredient, because if there is more of one it should have less points and if there is small amounts of an ingredient, Chris should get more for weeding them out.

So as a chef. here's the lesson. WHY MORE? You can achieve the same nuance with a little less. Just like a big night out, stop and look in the mirror and remove one thing, you'll have more impact.

This is also such a test of Chris's memory He can't directly compare the flavor to his. He has to remember what it tasted like. That's maybe even more impressive than tasting it blindfolded

I wish Chris had Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, perks. One of which where he would be able to blind taste test his dish directly against the dish he is trying to recreate. Side by side.
