The Best No-Frills Burger in NYC -- The Meat Show

Meat Expert, Nick Solares gives us the lowdown on his favorite burger in NYC. Alex: Despite him getting roasted hilariously in the comments, I did want to try this burger. Im in NY this week and I ordered the exact same thing (with fries and medium not rare) The fries were good! He should have eaten the pickle and coleslaw, as they were tasty and went well with the burger. I noticed that the patty seemed smaller than in this video and the price seems to have gone up. It came medium rare, not medium, so if I went again I wouldnt specify since they seem to undercook already. Overall the burger was good! Definitely not as good as he makes it out to be but I would get it again for sure. Its a cozy diner and Id like to try some of their other food too. The prices seem to have gone up but this video was filmed over five years ago so I wasnt surprised.

This guys is British! I always had the impression that Brits are wry, witty and self-deprecating in a hilarious way. Also, they always have the right word, the perfect turn of phrase. This guy sounds like an American pretending to be British and failing miserably at it. I applaud the concept of The Meat Show but it's totally wasted on this guy. He makes every episode annoying. I've even seen episodes where he's reviewing meat with the pretentiousness of a wine snob (but then there is a really profound beefiness to it. you're getting those deep, DEEP notes. Ugh. Eater, please get someone else to do this show.

Yes, maybe Nick is douchy and yes, his burger was too rare for everyone's tastes. But I must say I visited Joe Junior's when I was in NYC and it indeed was the best burger I've ever tried. It's just something out of this world really, the meat quality is tremendous and it just makes sense. I would completely recommend it to anyone visiting the big apple.

I had the burger at Joe Junior yesterday. First time there, even though I live a few blocks away. Frankly it was your average, pedestrian diner burger. I didn't see the magic. I've had far, far better in NYC. Actually, was in NJ last week and had the Habit Burger. It was head and shoulders better than Joe Junior. Did enjoy your review though.

I went there and I was surprised because it really was an amazing yet simple burger. It's what a cheeseburger should be. Is it the best burger ever in NYC? I don't know and probably not since it is so simple but since I ate there every time I think of a simple burger this is what I want.

The place actually looks really good, its not some neo-modern take on reinventing the hamburger. No gimmicks, just a good burger with nice atmosphere. I just think Nick sorta brought the hipster atmosphere with him but ignoring that I want to try this place out for sure.

Literally just a piece of patty with two cheese slices, and an ordinary looking bun. Talks as if he is getting an orgasm from the burger. Also, do you really not understand why one would get some veggies on the burger? what about for a richer flavor?

It's almost a sort of almost maillard reaction like a dumpling, mere rumour of a platonic ideal of what a burger was always meant to be in the land of milk and honey-Nick are you okConcussive maillard reactionOk Nick we're done here

that really does look like a good burger and i agree with his commentary, but that thing is WAY too rare for my taste. i couldn't stomach that. i think a burger should be medium-well. it's not a damn ribeye.

I love eating steaks rare but with a burger, i would go as low as a medium. Why? All the bacteria on the outside of the beef has been blended in when grinding the meat. Not risking my health over a burger.
