The next iconic American food is actually from Mexico

Our meat man Nick Solares has a theory: Tacos will soon replace hamburgers as America's most ubiquitous dish, thanks to the triple whammy of rising beef prices, shifting demographic and cultural patterns, and our nation's current love affair with Mexican food. He discusses the matter with taco evangelist and New York City-based chef Alex Stupak, who's inclined to agree

A taco is not a meal. A toco is a way of life. unless your a hipster or an idiot like this Nick Solares. So many things are wrong with this video, and no its not the burger taco. Mexico is made up of Mexicans not hispanics. (hispanic and latino term make me puke) The tortilla is a acient food and they map it to 1900. The tlaxcalli (tortilla) has been around since nixtamalization. A taco is a way of eating something so yes a hamburger can be a taco, a tlaxcalli can have just salt and it would still be called a taco. When you go to some tortilleria in Mexico they have a salt shaker and some even hot sauce for you to have a taco.

To me, tacos are a moment. An equalizer of men. People can jettison the tortilla and think about it as that physical form of wrapper with the product on it. The hamburger really defined freedom and America, and I've always said that the hamburger is a triumph over geography. What's great about the taco is that it's eminently modern and there's a great sense of modernity about it in the sense that it's in vogue now and the hamburger is a modern object but maybe despite its modernity, it's actually at the end of its reign. I think I might just revert to the hamburger as it's my natural form of comfort food.

Wasn't until I got with my wife who's Hispanic to realize the background of real mexican food/culture and how they don't try to necessarily sugar coat it. They love their food but don't act smug or think of it the same way white people (I'm white. The best mexican food I ever ate has been in hell holes in Mexico and Texas, not some fake joint in new york. For example, how many true Hispanics do you ever see drink corona? NEVER, they laugh at Americans who drink it because in Mexico Corona is actually not really liked at all.

Sooooo we are celebrating tacos and talking about how tacos rule. Beef is expensive and in the way out and chicken and pork are the new proteins to look out for and then eating a hamburger taco? Oh I just can't wait to see this guy go and have a hamburger eggs Benedict in the next video. Maybe some hamburger sushi! C'mon.

nothing mexican about that piece of shit on a tortilla. i cant believe i was actually buying into this clown's sermon until he started assembling that crap. Btw is there anything TRULY american that could be considered the national dish rather than unhealthy hamburgers and MEXICAN tacos?

Taco is the Mexican spanish word for snack. Basically when we say un taquito or taco it's like we say a little snack. Kinda like un taquito de ojo would be like saying a little eye snack or eye candy. Like saying she is a little eye candy Ella es un taquito de ojo,

por dios eso ni de cerca es un taco, lo principal del mismo es la tortilla de maiz, la salsa de molcajete y los ingredientes que en su mayoria en un taco nunca pondria lechuga, que comida llamenlo american quesadilla o algo asi, pero taco no.

Are people forgetting that most tacos are made with beef and a hamburger is beef pushed together. All the asinine people making hipster comments preaching that the food tastes like shit from behind a computer screen lmfao.
reply

i mean. a burguer taco, its just whimsical. but the mince meat reminded me to the tacos made of meat balls that my mom use to make, i use to love them with a yellow corn tortilla, and a hellish salsa.
