Some of the best Mexican food outside of Mexico comes from hole-in-the-wall eateries in East L. A. 's old barrios. Fantastic, cheap food that can't be found anywhere else. No gringo-style garbage. Eight of the ten highest rated Mexican restaurants in the US are in gorgeous Los Angeles as well. The authentic Mexican culinary tradition is long and proud there at all price points. Years ago, the best eateries catered to cops and gang-bangers. If you didn't go there with people who were obviously Mexican, you took your life in your hands. Those territorial neighborhoods could be like war zones at times, but restaurant food there was worth taking the risk. One place made a fabulous, bright red Habanero salsa so hot that smoke literally came out of your burning nose and ears. If you didn't speak Spanish there, you were out of luck because no one could or would speak English. Those were the good old days!

This one was SOOO much better then the previous one (Portland, both in story telling and editing. Still would have liked to maybe see her own establishment, but this was at least an enjoyable watch.

Soooo, 2 spots in East Los and the rest not even the same area code? More like promoting your friends businesses. Cool, East Los does not need the gentrification anyways.
