If you like to live dangerously, poke sallet might be the leafy green for you. Poke grows as a weed in much of North America. In the South, its been foraged and eaten as a vegetable for centuries. But heres the catch: Poke is poisonous.
Percy: Ive grown up in the deep, dirty South. No one I know has ever had poke. Since Ive learned about it, Ive been looking all over my area for it. Have never found it anywhere in the area. Im right on the Mississippi river, in New Orleans. No poke around here. Date: 2020-05-20
