Professional baker Lani Halliday and home cook Emily are swapping materials and hoping for the best! We set our resident ketchup queen Emily up with 118 worth of the finest ingredients you could ask for in a brownie, along with chef Lani s recipe. To offer some on-the-go expertise, food scientist Rose dialed in for a tutorial teleconference and pep talk. Over in Lani s kitchen, 14 worth of ingredients were being stretched to their limit in a quest to improvise her way up to gourmet. Grab a cup of milk and find out who made the best brownies under these mixed up circumstances! Dominic: Emily was hilarious! Always love her energy. And Lani is such a great addition, she's so informative and relaxed it makes for a great viewing experience. Not to mention her beautiful hair This video was great, thanks for the entertainment

The real star of the show is absolutely Emily's adorable dog kettle. I want to be its friend and give it scritches.
Also, I have to say that Lani's take on the normal-price brownies looked excellent (and I will forever be using cocoa instead of flour to nonstick my chocolate cake tins) but I always feel like when the pro chefs add extra ingredients (allergy substitutions notwithstanding, ie. gf flour instead of ap) it's not quite in the spirit of the challenge. Like, it's not a 14 pan of brownies anymore if you've put a 9 vanilla pod into the cream, now is it, professional chefs?

What an incredibly charming episode. It s so nice because trying difficult recipes is one way to just help you really improve. So it s nice to see a novice actively learn, even if she won t be making this all the time.
On the other side it s nice to see a seasoned chef use ingredients that are much simpler and helps me to learn to become better and not break the bank. There were ideas I would have never thought of.
Funny, charming, adventurous and educational what a well done episode.

I want to say that the cheaper one was done legit, but probably only because it was made in a smaller pan-- which made the brownie thick: D I love the expensive dark cream vs the white, but I think the way the pecans were in the oven and cooked (for the whipped cream) with the brownie is grander. :)

So, I call BS. The cheap ingredients are priced by what is used in the recipe, while the pro ingredients are priced by the full package.
For example, they both use the same heavy cream, but the pro ingredients lists it at 4. 99 and the cheap ingredients lists it at 1. 60.

Thank god a professional cook finally pronounced chantilly correctly. Also, Canola oil is poison garbage and should be in no one's kitchen. Finally, the two options of pronunciation you gave us for pecan were both wrong.

I enjoyed Lani! Maybe its due to our names being similar, but I liked that she took the time to show us every little secret she had. ( Secret as in her methods to amplify the brownie even if some were simpler than others )

Pro chef doesn't even have basic manners and such hip she do have, you lady listen first respect everyone only u have money so that doesn't mean u shouldn't respect others I definitely feel that u cook very worst

Did the professional somehow not understand the concept of this show? Why is she acting all sulky about giving up her fancy ingredients to a lowly home cook? No one forced her to come on here.

The pro people are just way out there. It's amazing to observe contrast between the two. Also, today i learned, that brownies are freaking hard to make.
