Rice and beans is a famously filling, classically comforting, budget-friendly meal, which above and beyond the overall deliciousness, provides a complete protein to give you the strength to get through tough times. So, whats the downside? Theres no downside. Plus, this baked version is foolproof, and comes out perfect every time. phippification: Sending you lost of love during this time Chef John I've been using this time to try out some of your harder recipes and made your french baguettes the other day; they came out fantastic Stay safe: )

Many thanks Chef I've been watching your videos and tried many of your recipes, with great results (pasta fazool is now in my top 10 for the family. The only trouble for me, as being french, is to translate cups an ounces etc. I can translate oz to kg, or figure out when it's just cups, but when you mix volumes (cups) with quantities (ounces) it gets tricky, like in this recipe for example - how much of a cup are 16 ounces of salsa? Merci: )

Shouldn't we save that foil for making hats? Cheers, Dear Chef John, coming from Buffalo as I do, we have a somewhat tilted take on natural disasters (like 2 meters of snow. So, thanks for making me laugh out loud. again.

Ive been cooking rice like this for about a year now and love the results on the rice, you could add chicken beef or chorizo to give it a twist, anyway enjoy your videos chef John as always Enjoy; )

My Biochemistry of Nutrition professor in grad school used to tell us that you live by eating nothing but rice and beans as long as you added a bit of bacon fat to get your essential fatty acids. Yum

Chef John, why didn't you choose to soak the rice for 30 mins and then boil in a lot of water and drain as is traditional with basmati rice, it makes the rice gran plump up much nicer.

Made this about a week ago. If you have onions, chop then saute and add to casserole dish before putting in the oven. Very good with chickpeas. Lentils work too but not as tasty, imo.

Chef knows we all have rice and beans in our pantries. You've trained us for disasters, chef I made sure to have at least seven cans of San Marzano tomatoes in our pantry.

Even if tin foil hats do work, wouldn't you rather wear a nice spiffy fragrant one instead of a boring plain one straight from the roll? Mind to recycle, folks.

I really appreciate these recipes that use very basic pantry ingredients. I'm sure all of us are going through our cabinets to see what we have Thanks, Chef John
