Making chicken pot pie in a pan doesn t sound all that revolutionary, and it s not, since that s where many people make it anyway, but since it comes out so differently than deeper dish versions, and according to me, so much better, I decided we need to start calling it what it really is. food: This looks delicious! Chicken pot pie is an all-time fave of mine. I remember when I was a kid, the store bought chicken pot pies crust was a 2 layer pie crust, the filling was enclosed inside the crust. It was so delicious! Then, that changed to where there was only a top layer crust. Was I disappointed!
Loved the crust a lot!

Chef John, very nice recipe, but I kick it way up, for viewers: I use pepperridge farm frozen pastry dough( only) thawed out, I add the following, tsp of poultry seasoning, diced yukon gold taters, diced onions, frozen peas & baby lima beans & chix stock not broth. Get the brand better than boullion in the grocer's broth aisle as is real concencentrated chix base & much more flavor than broth, you'll never use broth again, btw I like my pastry dough on the bottom, sides & on top

And when using a towel with something hot, remember that towel must not be wet, then you get burnt! (if you have just learnt to boil water, and spilt some of that water on a towel, don't use that wet towel to handle hot things)
If having to spell out that one should not touch a pan that has been roasting in a hot oven, I would not trust that person to operate a hot oven in the first place; -)
(I guess with 4 million subs one has to dumb it down)

7: 09 besides:
-never let the food win
-first we make them wet then we make them dry then we make them wet
-wet hands make smooth balls
-hot roux cold milk no lumps
-you are the boss of your sauce
-take a size and stick with it
-a hollandaise can sense fear
-you dont wanna buy your food in the same places where you buy your tires
-regarding eggplants: dots not slots
-fork dont lie

As someone who has worked in a kitchen, the towel rule is a good thing, not only for your co workers but yourself. Many times I've told myself, I won't forget that pan, I'm not a f# %ing idiot. And 20 seconds later, I'm screaming obscenities after full-on grabbing the pan I forgot was hot, because I am, in fact, a f# %ing idiot.

HOT DAMN. I can't wait to make this. A couple of changes for my version: Subtract celery, add mushrooms. After the broth is added, stir in a heaping tablespoon of marmite. And lastly, take the dough scraps and make a 2D image of a chicken on the pie.

With a humorous edge. I noted the different way momentarily is used in American english as compared to. English english. Subtly different. Fun. But just slightly fun in the way you treat recipe vagaries. Isn't difference fascinating?

Well? You lost me by adding green peas! BUT my hubby loves them! So if I visually divide the pan in half, and move all the peas to one side, say the panhandle side before I put the crust on, we both would be happy campers!

I'd add red bell peppers, parmesan, and potatoes or broccoli to the gravy. And I guess shrooms if you like them. You are, after all, the fun guy of your chicken pan pie.
Okay. I'm gonna go sit down somewhere

I was right there all the way up to the point of no bottom crust. I'm definitely going to try this but I gotta have bottom crust. I'm not much of a cobbler fan for that reason. I'll take pie any day.
