You know what makes you fart when you eat beans? A lot of that comes out in the water as you boil them and ideally you want to change out that water. but in this recipe a lot of that flavor is in the broth. I wonder if there is a way to change the recipe or cook it in a way to reduce the amount of bean-tooting while also still getting that flavor?

Chef John. IF you have, as I do, a wife who's allergic to pork, and IF you used turkey bacon on top, would you add MORE smoked paprika to make up for the lack of smokeyness? Or more beans to make up the lack of volume from the pork being missing? Or beef or lamb?

Baked beans in the UK never satisfy me now, there Is never enough salt or sugar or anything that used to give them flavour
so maybe I should try and make my own because these look really delicious

I wonder how many videos you made Chef John. I have an idea! When I go on my cruise where I am not allowed to cook, I will watch most of your videos so I can plan to prepare many of your great dishes in the future.

In Mexican cooking, we always skim the top. They say it helps 'clean' it up and overall taste is better but I've mainly known this to be when cooking animal meats. Looks delicious! Thank you!

Jon Townsend does the best BBQ beans, his are done in an 18th century style. Super oldschool and authentic. And it should be salt pork fyi, not plain pork shoulder.

It's kinda like he put in a cup of BBQ sauce and then added all the ingredients of BBQ sauce in separately into the bowl with it.
