Not only will you learn how to make this easy and delicious pan-fried Indian cheese recipe, but we re also going to show you how simple it is to make your own paneer at home. Archie: Does anyone know what Chef meant when he made a second batch that was thicker? Does he mean he waited for the curds to get thicker during the separation process, or he made a thicker (higher from top to bottom) ball, before pressing? They both looked exactly the same to me but I'm going to try and make paneer for myself but I'm not sure what he meant by thicker. It would seem the press would press it down to the same size even if you had a thicker piece, which is the whole point of the press, to flatten it.

Burning is not the same as a really over brownrd food using the mailard reaction.
The mailard reaction is the process of denaturing carbohydrates and proteins with heat, holding temperature to accelerate the reaction and create browning iem flavor.
Burning is the process of carbonization in which heat burns away volatile chemicals that hold most of not all of the nutritional mass, leaving only a matrix of organic carbon compounds.
Not. The same. Pale food taste worse. Gross.

I love seeing paneer get more coverage! If I were veg then paneer would be my primary meat substitute! When I ran my BBQ business I made a paneer, zucchini, red yellow orange bell pepper, and sweet onion kabab seasoned with garlic salt and lemon pepper and smoked over hickory. It was phenomenal! Cook more paneer!

You can barbeque the paneer, in this recipe you can put the paneer on the grill after marination, you can use different marinade. Add bell pepper, onions, and you got paneer tikka without tandoor.
And paneer can be used to make varieties of gravy dishes, like Paneer butter masala, Palak Paneer, etc.

Oh baby, this brings back some memories. A restaurant I used to go to would bring you a wedge of fried paneer and soup while you waited for your food. They had a thin (and somewhat clear) sweet sour curry soup with chunks of tomato and lentils in it that was particularly good to dip the paneer in, mmmm.

Hot tip. Use a tofu mould to press the paneer, you get a nice rectangular shape. Also, for some reason which I think is probably mostly an old wives tale, you should only stir the coagulating paneer in one direction. I also find a better coagulator is citric acid.

Allow me to be a bit pedantic. Did you mean actual fresh non-homogenized, non-pasteurized milk straight from the cow? Or did you mean bottled, homogenized, pasteurized milk that you get from the grocery? There's a big difference in taste you know.

I love you chef john but that isnt chilli paneer. Chilli paneer is made with bell peppers and onions with a sauce made with soy sauce.
What you've made is closer to tandoori paneer but instead of using a tandoor, you've fried your paneer.

My good sir, you should not have wasted that whey juice (strained water after the cheese separates. That water is very nutritious and could be used to make rice or knead dough. And if nothing else, could be used as a power juice for your plants.

Oh great Chef John! I already make homemade ricotta using your recipe, homemade sour cream, homemade creme fraiche using your recipe, and now I am def gonna have to make homemade paneer because fried cheese sounds awesome!

Well, now I have to try making my own paneer again. I thought my earlier trials, years ago, were the same steps, but the paneer always crumbled too easily when cooking. So, hopefully this will work this time. Thanks John.

Cheese making is an art. Paneer being the easiest one. I never tried this. The cheese that doesn't melt. You can buy Mexican frying cheese which is the same thing at your local store. It is indeed the same damn thing.

Going International cuisine now! New food + New experience! See Paneer in store, but not sure how to deal with it! Thank you for the cooking tip! It seemed like not too difficult, will give it a try soon!

I was looking for a paneer recipe, having bought some last week, so this is great! Will be making it tomorrow. If I like the paneer, will make my own. What wonderful timing. Thanks, Chef John. x
