Yes real wasabi is less spicy, that burning sensation you get from fake wasabi is the mustard seed powered they add. Real wasabi is more subtle and compliments the delicate flavor of raw fish.

Definitely give raw fish (sushi) a go. Just a word of warning it should not smell fishy, fresh fish should smell like a sea-breeze with very very light fish sent nearly un-perceivable.
