As a Native American/Hispanic I have enjoyed the best of both worlds in terms of food. I used to help in the kitchen when we had Taco Tuesday at the Indian Center and we called these Navajo tacos. It is basically the Indian version of a tostada. The leftover fry bread we would put in a container of cinnamon sugar, shake it around till it was heavily coated, put it on a plate, add a scoop of ice cream and cover it with hot apple pie filling. This was one of our best sellers and would be a good dessert for at home meals. You can skip the ice cream if you want and absolutely substitute any kind of topping that you would like. The fry bread just covered in cinnamon sugar is a desert by itself and we sold these by the sack.

Try not putting oil in the dough mixture, that is probably the reason the bread is not fluffy.
I am Navajo and my family doesnt put oil in dough. Also try a cast iron skillet, makes such a difference as well. And we usually make a big pot of chili beans.
Different tribes have their ways of frybread.
Good job tho otherwise.
I usually tear up my frybread into bite-size pieces and then put chili beans and toppings on top LOL. My lazy way

Navajos make their fry bread thinner and sometimes larger some of the cook still use lard for frying which gives it an excellent flavor. The planes tribes turn to make their fry bread a little smaller and fluffier. I know this because my husband is Kiowa and we have been around all kinds of natives who make this wonderful dish which is just called Indian tacos outside of Navajo country

My wife and I have really enjoyed many of your videos. I respectfully have a request for you. Would you please work on curbing your use of the words kinda, sorta, and just Please count how many times you used those unnecessary words in this video alone. It would take your presentations to the next level. You share great recipes. Best regards.

I usually just put in baking powder n sometimes a pinch of salt n let it rest for at least an hour or so, some people like thin, crunchy frybread but I like mine’s a lil thick n fluffy n use a roller to roll out the air bubbles n I put hot honey n pretzel salt on it too as a dessert soo good

I used to work for an Indian tribe that would host Indian Taco dinners every few months as fundraisers. Their tacos got very puffy which I love; I’m wondering what the difference in the recipes would be. Yours looked great too!

Looks divine! As an Italian, though, I make mine with pizza dough, which really is similar taste wise but the difference is we add yeast to the dough (and I buy the fresh dough at Aldi lol. Whatever floats your boat!

What no milk or milk powder! Nah true frybread has milk or milk powder in it. Remember this came about because Native women were making do with the spoiled rations given to them in the pow days of the rezs.

Yeah this is not quite a traditional recipe because we use milk. The majority of the time you'll see either powdered milk or condensed milk being used, I have my own way of doing it and yes I am native.

It's so funny you're making this recipe after just yesterday I was searching how it's made after watching Yellowstone series lol.
It's quite similar to fry bake in my culture but ours is puffy.

Good recipe but I disagree with the holes. I just think it's a bad idea. with the toppings etc. I just think it would make a mess. But to each their own
