Eating Guinea Pigs in the Andes Mountains regions of South America is a long and special tradition. Theyve been raised and eaten for thousands of years, and to this day, they remain very popular, and reserved for special meals. The city of Cusco, Peru, and the surrounding areas is one of the best places in Peru to eat guinea pig, known locally as cuy. 1. San Pedro Market - Right in the heart of Cusco is San Pedro Market, a wonderful Peruvian food market with everything you can imagine. In the morning youll find quite a few vendors selling to-go guinea pigs. We had this first, but it wasnt the best of the day. 2. Tipn, Peru - For our guinea pig number two we drove to Tipn, a town that claims to be a National Capital of Delicious Baked Guinea Pig. We headed straight for Cuyeria Monica, where she baked a fresh cuy, bubbled the skin, and served us the full cuy Peruvian food plates. Fresh out of the oven, with the crispy skin, it was incredibly delicious. 35 PEN (10. 61) - Price per cuy 3. Cuyeria Sol Moqueguano - Back to the center of Cusco, we tried a famous restaurant for cuy, Cuyeria Sol Moqueguano, where they have both baked and deep fried. This was an incredible meal, the deep fried version was sensational. The entire plate, including the sausage and rocoto relleno, was outstanding. 42 PEN (12. 73) - Per per cuy It was a fantastic Peruvian food day in Cusco, and a learning experience

Hello my name is Abrahan today I saw your food videos in Peru and I don't know what you read but I spent 2 hours stuck watching your videos. It is true there is no doubt that we have the best food in the world recognized worldwide but everything you ate in Lima and Cusco that is nothing the next time you are in Peru I would like to invite you to take a walk around Arequipa a quiet city, its historic center is so beautiful through its streets, especially its food, its drinks, its desserts, you will be overwhelmed with the Adobo. The chicha de jora that is very different from the purple wing you tried, our frozen cheese. We wait for you and I hope to see you soon and take a picture with you in the tuturutu (emblematic figure of the main square of the white city of Arequipa Peru)

Some what hard watching this one considering I had guiena pigs as pets. But when I think about it, I saw a TV show highlighting a village in the Andes which has a drink that the preparer actually spits in. Don't think I could eat cuy but the drink. no way.

Thank God he gave us Mark Weins for travelling all around the globe for food Every video I watch just makes me feel as if I'm with him and by the way he describes all the food, it seems that I can also savor the taste of whatever he eats

That protein necessity that you mentioned Mark, could easily be provided by the mushrooms and potatoes that were next to your Guinea pig. So just to be clear eating that pig is not a necessity.
