Get your FREE Thai food guide: (CLICK HERE) There's not much more comforting than a plate of Thai style Hainanese Chicken Rice in Thailand known as Khao Man Gai ( also spelled Kao Man Gai or Khao Mun Gai. Today I hit the streets of Bangkok's bustling Pratunam district to go to a restaurant that's serves Thai Hainanese Chicken Rice so fast, they don't even have time to hang the chickens like normal restaurant that serve Khao Man Gai ) do Hainanese Chicken Rice is a simple dish. The chicken is boiled in water, chopped up into bite sized pieces and served over a plate of rice that has been cooked with the chicken broth and fat to make it extra fragrant and flavorful. Khao Man Gai ) is served along with a bowl of chicken soup and a sauce that can be the real make or break factor of the dish. The sauce should be sour, spicy, and maybe a little sweet to go well over the chicken rice. Now I'm not saying that Khao Man Gai ) is a bad Thai dish, I'm just saying that's it's not the most flavorful Bangkok street food dish out there - but it's very comforting and soothing on the stomach. During this video I went to a restaurant known as Kaiton Pratunam (Ko-Ang) ) in the busy central shopping district of Bangkok, Thailand known as Pratunam. This Thai restaurant no only specializes in Chicken Rice, but also in Khao Moo Op ) which is rice with baked pork and delicious chicken soup. Here's the address and information you need to visit this same Bangkok restaurant: Kaiton Pratunam (Ko-Ang) Soi Petchaburi 30, New Petchaburi Road, Makkasan, Bangkok, Thailand Open: 5: 30 am - 3: 30 pm and 5: 00 pm - 3: 00 am

Not one of Thailand's best dishes? I LOVE Khao Man GaiBut I know what you mean. Imho Thai people don't ONLY eat hot hot hot, and even once in a while get fed up of too much spiciness. It is a good contrast dish, and I find it extremely comforting. I feel home, whenever I cook and eat this Same for Kai Paloh (another non-spicy dish with pork, 5-spicey broth and boiled egg. you already introduced to us. However, give me spicy Tom Yum, Gaeng Som, Som Dtum & Gai Yang anydaySo hungry now: D

Went to Pratunam market today and tried the Khao Man Gai Absolutely delicious only at 42 baht including tea It looked so bland but the rice was already flavored and the sauce (soy sauce with spices and bit of sweet sour flavor) went really well with it. It was like my first cheap meal in Bangkok. Looking at your video again, I think I might have been to the same place that you were in here. Tomorrow me and my friends will be going to the Nam Kang Sai place by Udom Suk

yazadarit The chicken broth soup kind of makes up for what would otherwise be pretty tasteless dish. We usually use a spoon to pour a bit of the broth over the chicken and the rice, then sprinkle the sweet chili sauce/fish oil mix over the chicken which is what really gives the dish its flavor. But you're right, without the sauce, it'd be pretty bland.

I love Hainanese Chicken In KL, there is a big shopping mall called Sogo and they sell it there, I always go there. The chicken was tender, a bit juicy, always fresh. They serve it with green and red chilli sauce, along with soy sauce and extra delicious chicken broth/soup sprinkled with coriander in a small bowl. Soooo good

While I wouldn't want to eat khao man gai on a regular basis, I still enjoy it as a quick standby that provides enough to satisfy hunger. Most of the places I've been to provide a chicken broth soup but with radish - no chicken pieces. I agree that it's the sauce that makes or breaks how good it tastes.

Hey, I do enjoy chicken rice, but if I'm being honest, it's nowhere near as flavorful as curry to me. It is comforting though, and I did have some really good chicken rice in Singapore, but still 9 out of 10 times I would go with a more flavorful curry over chicken rice - just my personal preference

You didn't taste it, so you based your opinion on what? I had tried Singapore's version, generally it's about the same taste. While the chicken meat is more juicier, but the rice is more bland too. As for the sauce, it's just local preferences, so I wouldn't make comparisons.

Great video Mark, well done, that particular dish looks quite benign and not too spicy, I have been to bangkok many times and love the food but sometimes the spiciness is more than I can handle, and something like this looks a great alternative now and again.

Hainanese chicken rice is one of my favourite asian dishes ever It looks so bland and basic but it is the sauce and the juicy chicken that makes this dish amazing And I actually don't like rice much at all, but when i do eat rice, i have to have it like this: )
