Emperor Jade Pagoda, Saigon Zoo, and Delicious Vietnamese Food

Get my food new - Hey everyone, it's Mark Wiens here, hope youre having a wonderful day. In this travel food video, I was in Saigon, Vietnam. We decided to try taking the local bus, and from our hotel, we walked about 10 minutes to the bus stop on Minh Khai road. The bus came in just a few minutes and we took it just down the road until we got off right outside the Saigon Zoo. Before entering the Saigon Zoo though, we were hungry so we decided to first go eat at a restaurant nearby called Ph Phng 25, which is actually located right down the road from the legendary Lunch Lady of Saigon. I ordered a bowl of ph ti, which is Vietnamese pho noodles with rare cooked beef. It was very good, the beef especially was amazing, and I thought the soup was nicely balanced, but maybe a bit on the sweet side for me - but it did hit the spot. After eating pho, we walked back to the Saigon Zoo, which shares the compound with the Saigon Botanic Gardens. The zoo wasnt the best, the animals didnt look to happy, but I did really enjoy walking around the gardens, which were lush and green and offered a nice escape from the chaos and loudness and fast pace of Saigon. After walking around for a while we then headed to the Museum of Vietnamese History, which is located right at the entrance of the zoo. The museum was pretty nice, definitely worth a visit - what I liked especially was the displays of artwork and carvings from Angkor Wat. After the museum we then walked to the Emperor Jade Pagoda, one of the most well known Taoist temples in Saigon. The temple was old and dark, and it truly had an ancient, almost eerie feel to it. It was definitely worth visiting, and its a temple you should check out when youre in Saigon. After the temple, we then headed to Le Van Tam Park to eat Vietnamese green papaya salad that many of you recommended I should eat when I was in Saigon. The green papaya salad in the park was delicious, sweet and sour and fresh tasting. To end the day, we headed back home on the bus, and then stopped by a lady I like to call the Meat Lady - a lady who sells all things Chinese meat. We got some pork belly, and some char siu, which was incredible. She also hooked us up with some baguettes as well. It was another amazing day in Saigon - so many friendly people and delicious food. Nicely done mark. As always you represented the foods so well and looks like you enjoyed touring around. I hope you enjoy the rest of your time there. And yes I do agree with you crispy pork belly is the bomb. very yummy, but I am also a duck lover so that duck looked good. I also like chicken feet, all that yummy glandger tissue is just yummy and goes down easy. God bless mark

Happy new yrs Can't waite to see more This video so lively So joyful feeling watching it. I need to try green papaya salad one day My only complaint is the traffic looks intense with the scooters. Other than that everything is so green it looked like a pretty warm day You definitely captured the atmosphere I especially like the lady that was sleeping in the lawn chair

Hi mark. The northern Thai dish of selecting some veg etc then boiled in a fish sauce broth was similar to my lunch today Boiled green beans, kale and courgette with noodles plus seasoning, fish sauce, oyster sauce, soy etc. Happy new year and all that.

It looks like you're very much well adjusted with life in Asia and surprisingly not having any problems with the food. I know as an Asian myself there are certain dishes that are acquired taste but you obviously have a well-developed palate.

What a great video Mark. I know it's insignificant but that lady at 6: 30 lounging with her feet up made me smile and as sad as it is, I loved the honesty in your commentary about the poor condition of the zoo.

I like how you've done longer videos the last year or so. Even just walking around the streets is interesting to me, seeing the people, the shops, the traffic. Gives a true feeling of the city.
