This video is a very typical lunch in Phuket. For more restaurants in Phuket go here: One of my favorite meals to eat in Thailand is rice and curry called khao gaeng. One of the reasons I love it so much is because you get to see what dishes are available, and choose whatever looks the most delicious, and another reason I love khao gaeng so much is because many of the dishes are spicy and full of flavor and are eaten along with rice. The south of Thailand is home to some of my favorite food in the world, and I could eat khao gaeng ) everyday. On my first day in Phuket, after just arriving from Krabi, my wife and I were both hungry and we were just walking around and found a very typical, normal restaurant to eat khao gaeng. It was the mid-afternoon, so not all the dishes were available, but we just chose a few of the best looking dishes, and sat down for lunch. Probably my favorite dish to eat in the south of Thailand is gaeng som, a sour and spicy soup. At this street food restaurants in Phuket I ordered gaeng som naw mai pla, gaeng some with bamboo shoots and fish. The dish was overall quite good, nice and spicy and sour, with big chunks of fish and crisp bamboo shoots as well. Another dish I love to eat in southern Thailand is gaeng look lian moo, a type of bean sprout with pork this time, all within a coconut milk based curry. Finally, we ordered a bowl of dom pla meuk, boiled squid with pieces of carrot and daikon radish. Although it was on the plain side in flavor compared to the other dishes, I really enjoyed it because the squid was nice and fresh. Overall, this was a very normal khao gaeng, rice and curry meal in Phuket, and youll find similar restaurants throughout Thailand and the south of the country. But even though this is just a normal restaurant, this is the type of place I love so much

do thais ever eat rice with their hand? that fish curry your eating looks exactly like the fish curry we eat in sri lanka, but we serve it on the rice in a banana leaf, with vegetable sides, and we use our finger tips on our hand when we eat (we wash our hands before and after eating, and it makes it really easy to eat something that has bones in it, taste really good too

Are you in Phuket now? You should try the Italian/Thai fusion place called the cook. Tried their Italian pizza with chicken green curry yesterday and it was delicious: ) My husband and I are here in Phuket Town for 1, 5 more weeks, let me know if you want to share a meal somewhere.

Mark, do you ever plan to travel to Laos? I understand the food is the same as Thai dishes, however Laos has more of the authentic dishes. Such as mok pla, gang naw Mai and so forth. I would love to see you travel to Laos and have some Laos dishes.

When you go to these places how do you translate all things? Do you have a guide/person that knows how to speak and read the language, know it yourself, have a translation app or book, or is most things translated on to English already?

Have you ever had a bad food experience? I'm planning a trip to Vietnam with my husband for 28 days but I'm a bit concerned since here on the Texas/Mexico border we don't have many options for different foods: O
