Read more about Naty's Filipino Food Kitchen here: Back in 2010, I spent about 2 month in the Philippines, exploring, doing all sorts of things, and eating all sorts of food. The amazing people I met, and the delicious food I ate, contributed to it being a very memorable trip. This time, I didnt make it back to the Philippines yet (however, I hope to visit soon in the future, but when I was in Honolulu, Hawaii, I came pretty close to the real thing at a restaurant called Natys Kitchen at the Maunakea Marketplace in Honolulu. The Maunakea Marketplace is located right in the heart of Chinatown in Honolulu, and if you walk inside the marketplace, and go to the food court section, it honestly feels like youve left Hawaii altogether, and have transported yourself into a market in Manila or somewhere in southeast Asia - its my kind of spot. There are a few different types of food to eat at Maunakea Marketplace, including a couple Thai stalls, but by far the dominating cuisine in Filipino food, and there are about 5 different Filipino food stalls to choose from. One of the most well known, and also they offer the most selection of dishes is Natys Kitchen. Natys Kitchen dishes out all the prepared food and has them all on display in the from cabinet, and you just pick and choose the different dishes that you want, which will then all be piled into a styrofoam container. Typically most customers might get a box with 2 dishes and rice, but I couldnt resist ordering 3 dishes and then a bowl of sinigang soup on the side. After getting my rice, I ordered the pork dinuguan, one of the more noticeable Filipino foods of pork and blood made into a stew. Although it might not look the most appealing, and some people even call it chocolate pork, it actually tastes quite amazing. Its almost like blood sausage without the casing, except its much more moist and has a gravy. The taste was very nice, almost with a slight hint of a livery flavor and just a slightly sour flavor as well. At first I was also going to order the pork adobo, which is one of the most well known Filipino foods, but it was made with pork belly and after seeing how oily it was, I asked the Aunty if she had any other recommendations. She pointed to the pork igado, which she said had a similar flavor to adobo, but it was made with a less fatty cut of pork. The igado was excellent, including tender chunks of pork, in a pepper and vinegar sour sauce. Along with my rice, it was very good. The last dish I got on my plate has always been one of my favorite Filipino foods, a dish called pinakbet, which is a mixture of different vegetables fried up with shrimp paste. It wasnt overly shrimpy or overly salty, just had an excellent fragrance, and a good mixture of vegetables that went well with all the pork dishes. Also, I couldnt resist getting an order of pork sinigang. When I was in the Philippines I really enjoyed eating fish sinigang, a sour tamarind soup, but here at Natys Kitchen in Honolulu this day, they only had the pork version. The flavor of the soup was very good, but the pork made it a little on the oily side - it was good but I would have preferred the fish version. Natys Kitchen is an excellent and quite authentic restaurant in Hawaii that serves delicious Filipino food. Natys Kitchen - Maunakea Market Place, Chinatown Open hours: I went there at about 11 am on a weekday and they were open and thriving, but Im not sure of their exact business hours Prices: All the food I ate and ordered above cost 11 How to get there: Natys Kitchen is located in Chinatown at Maunakea Market Place right in Honolulu, Hawaii. If you can find street parking thats great, otherwise there is a municipal parking garage nearby. Read the full blog post

Hello Mark, I had been watching your travels around the world for food, especially in the Phil, which is where I came from. I have noticed that you don't mind eating the innards and I' not sure if you have tried the one dish that is made of pork\ beef lungs. If you love dinuguan, you will or I should like the BOPIS. It is sauted in garlic, onions, and tomatos\tomatoes ) with vinegar, and chili. I love it when it is cooked with lots of spice( hot. Just try it when you can, and good luck. Thanks for sharing all your travels and also in introducing your lovely wife and a very good looking baby.

The pork sinigang has a lot of oil hanging out at the top when they make it, the pork is also very tough. The Pinakbet has some old tasting long beans, and very tough bitter melon. The pork in the pinakbet has no flavor. The Dinuguan is TOO oily. It taste like nothing else but grease. The Igado is probably the best one out of the 4. Yes, I know I commented 2 months ago, but I came back to this video and wanted to comment again about how lousy this NATY'S is. They rush out the dishes for sale or they just don't know how to cook the dishes properly. What a shame'

Mark: ahh. Filipino. blood. Made with blood. o_0? Wait, wait. What? Uhm, okay now I just gotta ask this. Was that poor Pinoy only maimed & then released after they got enuff blood from em or was he at least 'taken out' humanely? I mean, I absolutely adore delicious/authentic Filipino food, but now I'm waiting for the no pinoys were harmed in the making of this dinuguan statement. Lol, just kidding of course. I totally Looove every single dish at naty's & every one of those nana's are just the nicest of people u could ever hope to meet

Dinuguan or blood broth is my favorite. Apart from eating it with rice, a lot of filipinos eat it with puto (not the hispanic profane word - get your mind off the gutter) which is a steamed rice cake. Often during All Souls Day or All Saints Day, when people camp out in front of their deceased relatives, this is often served. Sometimes they add 'siling labuyo' or wild filipino peppers to add heat and flavor.

I love dinuguan too, try also chicken tinola (my husband loves it too) and morcon (stuffed rolled skirt steak with liver sauce, cheers from Australia Come and visit Oz, we're in Tasmania, you'll love it too, similar to Palawan but colder and plenty of seafood- salmon, crayfish/lobster, etc. I catch plenty of squids, yellow tail mackerels, etc. during summer ( from around December to February.

Mahalo for visiting my home state I'm half Flip and never ate Filipino food in/at a restaurant, I guess cause we had enough of it at family gatherings. LoL - Thanks for the great videos. I used to be able to eat that stuff before but now I just want the vegetables. Hope people don't think the blood is anything like the taste of chocolate. ha

I'm telling ya. The best way to eat Pork Sinigang is to pressure cook the pork till the juices come out and the meat becomes soft that it melts. And then when you eat it, dip it in fish sauce or fish bagoong with chili in it and eat with rice, lots of it. Man, I think I'll cook Sinigang one of this days. Slurp
