Nasi Dagang Pak Malau: Fish Curry and Amazing View in Langkawi

Read the full post about Nasi Dagang Pak Malau here: When I was in Langkawi, one day for breakfast we went to a restaurant called Nasi Dagang Pak Malau, a beautiful little home style restaurant sitting on the edge of the rice field with a view of the mountain in the background. To begin with, the view and the scenery was amazing, and paired with delicious food, it was one of the best restaurants I ate at in Langkawi. We were greeted by the owner and his wife, both of whom are extremely friendly and helpful. At Nasi Dagang Pak Malau they serve a Malaysian food called nasi dagang, which is traditionally rice served with fish curry. The dish is traditionally from the states of Terengganu and Kelantan, and although we ate this in Langkawi, the owners are from both of these states, and then moved to Langkawi. Everyone was serving nasi campur in Langkawi, and so we wanted to serve something different - more of a taste of home - the owner told me. So traditionally again, for nasi dagang it would include just rice and fish curry, but at Nasi Dagang Pak Malau, in order to satisfy a more broad range of eaters, they prepare a number of different curries each day, including beef, chicken, and mutton. Fish and mutton are two of my favorite meats, and so I had to get the fish curry along with the mutton curry. After he scooped the curry onto my plate, he then added on a spoonful of pickled, made with cucumbers and carrots, and then I sat down at one of the yellow tables sitting on the side of the rice field. Both the mutton and the fish curry were spectacular, but I have to give it up for the flavor of the fish curry - it was full of spice, rich from coconut milk, and the fish meat was extremely firm. If you get a chance to eat at Nasi Dagang Pak Malau when you are in Langkawi, it will definitely be one of the top meals you have when youre there - for the beautiful atmosphere, the friendly owners, and the delicious nasi dagang. Nasi Dagang Pak Malau Directions: The restaurant is located on Jalan Makam Mahsuri Open hours: 8 am - 2 pm (or until sold out) from Saturday - Thursday (closed on Friday)

I can understand you like the curry as it is mild and sweet but somehow Malay don't uses it for eating with other white rice dishes. Well the Malaysian of east coast love mild and sweet taste while west coast preferred hot and spicy. I prefer mid west coast nasi dagang served with thick yellow curry sauce with tumeric fried chicken and pineapple & cucumber pickle. Lastly its very rare to see someone eat nasi dagang with bird chillis.

Original nasi dagang in Kelantan served with mutton kerutup, beef kerutup and black tuna curry. Kelantanese nasi dagang have more purple color with ginger while Terengganu version is white rice. The Pak Malau's nasi dagang is Terengganu version. You should come to east coast of peninsula Malaysia to taste the original version

Langkawi in my hometown. But I rarely go back recently due to working in other part of Malaysia. I still didn't have the chance to go to Pak Malau Nasi Dagang yet. Will definitely go there when I go back home. Love your video a lot. Really glad you enjoy Malaysia & especially Langkawi. One bad thing though, your video made me hungry.

Hi Mark If you ever have a chance to travel to terengganu ( the place where the friendly owners mentioned ), please try our version of nasi dagang, keropok ( a type of fish finger. Steamed or deepfried ) and Roti Paung ( we call it the small bun ) Love your videos Mark

This place is quite nice. The utensils, the plates, the buffet trays, almost everything is high quality, the owner also speaks good English, the place is very clean as well. I'm afraid i have to say this place is touristy, is it mark? Even the signboard looks like it.

Awesome food, as always. I'm amazed you can just take bites of raw pepper like that Even mixed in with papaya salad, I can only do 3 at best. Is that something you had to ease into? If I did that, my mouth and stomach will probably catch fire

You need to eat Nasi Dagang at Terengganu if you really want to taste the real Nasi dagang. it came from here. It'll taste really different if you could find a place that cook it deliciously. My western teacher really love it
