Ive always been a big fan of old style charcoal steamboat dining, and Tian Wai Tian is a legendary Singapore restaurant that serves fish head steamboat. Read more here: For this video I was hanging out in Singapore with Daniel, and he wanted to bring me to his favorite restaurant for fish head steamboat. Although its called fish head steamboat, it actually includes the entire fish, so its not just fish heads, but the entire fish and body. Tian Wai Tian is a pretty awesome restaurant, old style, and famous throughout Singapore. They are quite well known for having a lack of service, or not much service at all, but it still remains packed out every single night because of the delicious food. When you arrive at Tian Wai Tian the first step is to find an open table and then you sit down - but instead of a waiter coming to take your order, you have to go up to the front of the restaurant, stand in line, order and pay. Once the food is ready, its then delivered, or kind of just dropped off at you table. One of the great things about the restaurant is that its very laid back, and you can walk around and kind of do whatever you want to do. If you want to see whats going on in the back of the kitchen you can. If you want to walk around the outside of the restaurant you can as well. They let me do some filming inside, and it was amazing to see the chefs at work. Two chefs were making all sorts of stir fried and deep fried dishes, while one chef was strictly making the fish head steamboats. For the steamboat, the broth was I believe a combination of chicken feet and fish, and once you ordered the fish of your choice, hed mix up some broth in a wok with the fish, dump it all into a steamboat filled with hot charcoal, and then add in some extra soup and ingredients and lots of vegetables and it would be delivered. The fish head steamboat was incredibly delicious, both my wife and I loved it. The soup was salty and flavorful, a combination of the fish with chicken feet stock, and also what I really liked was the addition of taro in the soup as well. Additionally there were quite a few vegetables like Chinese cabbage and water morning glory. There are also a number of other Chinese deep fried and stir fried dishes you can order when you eat at Tian Wai Tian, and we had a couple of dishes including some fried Teochew style chicken wings, and a sambal squid. Tian Wai Tian Fish Head Steamboat Address: 1382 Serangoon Rd Open hours: 5 pm 11 pm daily Prices: Our total bill for 3 for everything was 59 SGD How get there: Its about a 5 minute walk from Potong Pasir MRT station

I avoided this place many years ago. Rats running behind the alley. An old lady looking like a Mamashang (green tattooed eyebrow, wrinkled skin, fire engine-red lip stick) who was taking order & preparing food for the cooks at the same time. I told her my table number & order. She didn't respond, I told her again & no response from her. When I told her the 3rd time, she shouted at me saying can't you see I have to handle so many things. I just walked away and left the restaurant. What the F is wrong with this old mamashang?

I remember when I had my internship in Singapore a few years back and was surprised to how the food looks similar yet tastes so different from Chinese-Thai food. I'm a Chinese-Thai and is familiar with Southern Chinese food and I feel so warm-hearted to see history and years of evolution in these dishes in each Southeast Asian country. Food is such a transnational thing and it brings people together.

I think a little bit of correction is needed for the video. The chicken wings which Marks refer to as Teochew fried chicken wings, is actually Har Cheong Gai (Prawn paste chicken. Its got Cantonese origins, not Teochew. The Teochews are known for their fresh steamed (read healthy) dishes so they normally would not do deep fried food.

Are you kidding me, either the owner of the restaurant is so arrogant that he don't care about good customer service or just do not have any business sense. Most people in the US would avoid places like that no matter how good their food is. There's always another food joint with same type of good food and better service.

So Hi now we are having our first fish head steamboat restaurant. You can call this a cookhouse or eatery, but the dish that is unique to here is the pomfret fish head steamboat, and is located at Opal Crescent. This particular shop name is Tian Wai Tian Fish Head Steamboat.

One of the best fish head steamboat place in SG. Go around 5pm and the wait is probably do-able. Any later, you are having your dinner at 8pm. Queue and make your order right inside the kitchen. Order the fried prawn(hae Chor, fried chicken and the fish steamboat and you are set.

Another great video Love how both you and Ying always cover street food rather than the local up scale areas FYI the Hei Chou is crispy not because its fried in a batter, its actually wrapped with bean curd skin and deep fried hence its so deliciously crispy

In almost every video, every person you pass is staring at their phone. Kinda sad that no on talks to each other anymore. I make it a point to not do this with my family: / there's nothing THAT important. It can wait until you leave the restaurant.

mark i got to say on this one the chefs look like drunks they had stuff falling out all over the place like they were cooking on just pot luck lol, but still if u had fresh ingredients to start of with it should taste good anyways lol.

That's cuttlefish, not squid. I wonder what's the point of having a local sitting right beside you when he doesn't provide you with right information of the food you are eating. Like what's in the hae cho. It's water chestnut, not turnip.
