When I was in Jakarta, along with eating all sorts of regional Indonesian food from around the country, I really wanted to eat a full spread of Betawi dishes, which are the people originally from the Jakarta area. After doing some research I came across Warung Mak Dower, and decided to take the trip from across Jakarta to eat there. It was well worth visiting, and the food was incredible. Here are the dishes I ordered: Sayur asem (vegetable tamarind soup) Ikan cue goreng bawang (fried fish with shallots) Cumi asin lenong (salted squid dish) Jengkol nampol (dogfruit chili) Pete goreng (fried stink beans) Pete bawang (stink beans and fried shallots) Everything was pretty good, but nothing compared to the dishes that included stink beans and crispy shallots, and the jengkol nampol, a dish of cooked dogfruit in lots of chili and garlic. It was simply an overload of flavor. Warung Mak Dower is a great friendly family run Betawi restaurant thats well worth checking out when youre in Jakarta. Warung Mak Dower Address: Jl. Pemuda No. 72, Rawamangun, Jakarta Open hours: 9 am - 9 pm daily Total price: 140, 800 IDR (10. 33)

Hello mark, im ur new fan of ur utube video. All of ur videos just make me hungry and even after having heavy dinner, then watching ur video make me want to eat more. LOLBtw, i also like petai (stinky beans) and jengkol like u do. That is my favorite foods. I even willing to trade a plate of meat for jengkol or petai. Hahahaha. I think u never eat RAW petai with sambal terasi (sambal mixed with shrimp paste) along with a plate of hot rice. It will give u different taste of the petai. Taste like heaven for me. LOLU should try it when u go to any Sundanese Restaurant (they usually have this on their menu. Loved watching ur video, Mark & Ying.

'Cumi asin' it means salty squid. Asin = salty. That kind of food with 'asin' in it name should be eaten by rice and not type of food that you can eat directly without any rice/lontong/ketupat. And you're right about those sambal. The one is called sambal tomat (tomato base sambal) the other one is sambal terasi. .. Basically sambal terasi is just sambal tomat with terasi ( dry small shrimp and it crushed until it become like paste)And sambal terasi is easily to notice because of its smell. It smell almost like durian or wet sock. But it really taste great. .. I personaly very like sambal terasi(Sorry for my bad english)

1. Asem = Tamarind, Asam = Sour/Acid. No meat because our ancestors were poor hence they found the alternatives and one of them is jengkol. 2. Dower = when your lips swollen because it got stung by a bee or when you consume something spicy. 3. The after effect of jengkol and pete are stinky breath and urine, it's good and healthy just have to bear with the smell. 4. Are you from SEA, cuz you can calibrate your tongue with authentic Indonesian food. Also you were fine eating fish when the head is still attached. Hahaha, good one Mark. Looking forward for your visit in Jogja and Solo, tons or delish meal are waiting.

Watching this vid in July 2019. Amazing Mark sure can handle it's sambals. great food even for a foreigner, tip of the day: to remove the odor in ur mouth after eating jengkol, petai, etc. u should try flushing it with durian juice. yummy
