Laos has a long history with France, and for that reason, youll find a lot of French food restaurants throughout the main cities like Vientiane and Luang Prabang. In Luang Prabang, L'Elephant Restaurant is one of the most renowned high end French restaurants in the city. What I liked and the reason I wanted to try L'Elephant Restaurant when I was in Luang Prabang is mainly because they use mostly local Laos ingredients, but French cooking techniques. So I made a reservation. L'Elephant Restaurant - Located in a classic yellow building just a few steps from the Mekong River, L'Elephant Restaurant is a beautiful restaurant. They do have both French food and Lao food on their menu, but I decided to keep the dishes pretty French and the ingredients Laos. Buffalo steak tartare - This was the first dish I for sure was going to order, and I think its one of their best dishes. The buffalo was chopped, mixed with egg, pickles, and capers. It was every bit as good as I thought it was going to be. Wild boar terrine - This was something I sort of ordered and didnt know what it was. A terrine is a kind of meat loaf, sort of like pate but different. This one was seasoned with some cognac as well. It was ok, but not my favorite dish of the meal. Chef salad - The chef salad at L'Elephant Restaurant is amazing, full of their garden grown vegetables. Flemish buffalo carbonade with Beerlao - Seeing that Beerlao was used in this dish, I had to try it out. The stew was excellent, with just a scent of beerlao - I think. Mekong fish stew - Finally the last French food we tried was the Mekong fish stew - nuggets of Mekong fish, in a mustard butter white sauce. The fish melted in your mouth, it was so good. L'Elephant Restaurant is an elegant French food restaurant in Luang Prabang, Laos. I thought the dishes could have been a little bigger, but the taste and quality were both excellent

my god, mark. the portion is designed for three to four dishes per healthy eaters. you are four to seven dishes short, no wonder you are not full. ordering all dishes to come out at once is rude, too. its so for all dishes but at least you didnt taste the fish dish as chef intended for sure. they have to be eaten right away. i didnt like this episode. i think you are unnaturally cold to this restaurant. from the looks of it alone, it looks like one of the best places you have visited. did the video really reflected the quality of the food there?

Your videos are interesting, the only reason i watch them is because of the different countries you travel to and their foods. I do have to ask you this question though, since you go to most of the restaurants with the local hosts and order food for everyone on the table, when the dishes arrive, you are the first person who uses your own fork or spoon and dip directly into every dish and also double dip contaminating the food for other people with your spit in every dish on the table while the others watch helplessly?

I think mark should hire joel to be his production assistant. That way, we see more joel and ying is freed up to spend more time with micah. Plus, who knows. they may have another little one some day and her hands will be really full. If mark hires joel to travel with them and help with the actual filming, ying can get a break. And we get multiple opinions and a break of any monotony. It's really win/win/win. I find I really enjoy the shows with appearances by ying and joel. Again, micah steals the show

How's your baby? I only see you eating. but what about your baby. Do yo guys carry with you, baby food, milk, bottles of water for your baby, I hope your wife is not feeding the baby all that crap. that will make the baby sick. make sure the baby eats first, man because the why you eat it seem that you don't care if the baby eats or not. is eating or your wife. stop stuffing your face

You seem like a great guy and your comments are often funny. However, your palate must be seriously damaged as you seem only to be able to taste extreme chili and sour flavours. You pick up on textures but not subtile tastes which you often call bland Maybe a month or two on a chili purge/fast could get your taste buds working better.

Oh God Mark, You eating in a high class business and you try and eat with your fingers, sit up and back, please don't lay in your food. I know it's good. Great Video. LOL the lady in the background has horrible table manners, she is laying on the table with her elbows, Today's world has forgotten how to act in public.

The amusing thing about this dude? With a networth of half a million dollars he eats like a complete pig like he hasnt eaten. 1000s of dishes every one is mind blowing. ( for show not honesty ) and hundreds of videos you've NEVER seen him kiss, hug or even hold his wifes hand.

problem with french food is they are cheap on the food, don't give you enuff to have a satisfying meal. i tried it one time, and french food is something you have to get used to, in order for it to taste good. that is, you have to aquirre a taste for the food.

Some years ago, the UNESCO declared French cuisine as the world's heritage cuisine. Yes, France has given much to the world in terms of the styles and technicalities of cooking and its haute nouvelle cuisine is refined and a gem.
