I bet it cost more than every country you goto! any place better and more affordable than AUS, AND we import over 75% of our seafood and export it to all the other places you goto Mark. Australia is sad when it comes to cost for food and what we have available, we export everything and we get the scraps, and everything else cost more than its worth. I bet that monk fish was over 25 bucks for eg HAHAHA BTW you cannot catch MONK Fish in the southern hemisphere, so its isn't local or fresh

Yes as an Australian myself I am just gobsmacked at the prices being charged by restaurants and takeaways these days, and wonder how on earth anyone affords it. I never eat out. Love my seafood but i'd rather cook it at home. If you can catch it, clean and fillet it yourself then you are laughing. Everything is exorbitantly expensive in this country and it's one thing I will never come to terms with. Just glad I am a good cook and can prepare yummy packed lunches and dinners, coffee etc without needing to pay these prices.

And now I think whilst Australia has such a varied migrant population, it has not developed the inherent segregation that comes from migrant populations in other countries. I think food for us, regardless of origin, comes down to three categories. How does it look? How fresh are the ingredients? And how does it taste? These three criteria will determine how popular your food is regardless of where it comes from.

Those white parrots with yellow crest are called yellow crested cockatoos. I live an Australia in North Queensland and we get flocks of them constantly right now flying over every afternoon. They can be quite noisy. Non stop squawking the whole time they are flying. And they can do a lot of damage to trees too. Over in the park by our place there is a lot of branch clippings everywhere and that's caused by the cockatoos while they roost.
By the way i love a good ham and cheese toasty too.

I love how Mark takes his time and gets to not just eat the foods on his vlog, but gets to know the people that prepares his food. We learn about the people, where the foods come from and how it's been prepared. Love the vlog, Mark.
You need to make a stop to Bondi in Sydney and try some of their restaurants. My Auntie went there and said every restaurant was wonderful and the seafood was the best she had on her trip to Australia.

even in the mid 80s me and my dad would snorkel off the end of the rocks at st kilda peer and fill the big mesh bags they used to sell oranges in (5kg bags) full of mussels to take home and make pasta with, plenty of people used to do it and there was always an abundance, and then the local councils and governments banned it for local people

flathead tails used to be the throw away cheap bits of fish that were affordable for poor and working class people, not anymore. just like pork and lamb chops where once considered poor and working class food, all it takes is a fancy marketing campaign to send the price through the roof in australia

as a brit this bugs me because its just copying our food sane with the pastry stuff in the other episode i respect it i love austraila there our brothers and sisters but fish and chips should stay in the uk and sausage rolls so i hope u come here aswell

Great area to look at, also should of looked at Portarlington other side of Geelong, a lot of shops there serve good fresh food if those who coming form America to Australia.
