The Tulip and the Rose Cafe in Franklin, NY is the type of place you could drive by for years and have no idea of the vivacity until you walk inside. Started by members of the Osmanli Dergah, a Sufi Muslim group that-s found a home in the Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York, the restaurant serves international food focusing on Malaysian, Indian, Turkish, Thai, and American recipes. The restaurant is known throughout the area for its lamb chop, gyro, hummus, Javanese noodles and Malay curries. The story of this restaurant is one of leaving biases at the door. Hasan and Erdem, who own the restaurant, have stayed true to their ethos despite past conflicts with some in their small pastoral town. With help from their undeniably intriguing food, The Tulip and the Rose Cafe, as well as the members of the Osmanli Dergah, has been embraced by their community and continues to thrive

I do not practice the Religion. But i'll vouch to this kind of Islam to be the True Islam. My ways are Spirituality, Being mindful of the society around me, helping others when I can and be kind. I do not dress traditional either, nor do I have a beard. But, I very much respect people who choose dressing and looking more traditional. It's all good. Humanity first, Human values first, Respect first. Its the true way of living a healthy and a worthy life.

I can attest first hand that the food is absolutely amazing. They catered my daughters wedding back in November and people are still talking about how delicious the food was. That seemed to be the highlight of the wedding! The very first time I went to the community, I was welcomed so warmly and received that warm bowl of soup and such a high level of hospitality. There is a strong spiritual presence that I love and connect with!

How Americanized-Capitalized their Suffism is! ---The food looks great, but not sure about the taste! A restaurant that cooks foods from around the World hardly gets any right! - An exception: if there's a Chef from each country they're serving foods of (and they don't have that. ---With all due respect, I think their Suffism is as far-fetched and as -tasteless- as their food.

Am a Cook, Am a Religious seeker, I love what you have done and still doing to bring all closer together thru food, excellent. I was raised to eat only my mothers cooking but when I want out into the world I would try different cultural foods and a long the way learned all is God for God with love for all. peace, love and light. daughter of the Light, let it shine.

It's a sad thing that you promote Malay food when majority Malays do not follow the peace making and love of humanity origin that Islam has from the beginning. You guys are a great example of Muslims and Islam cause you potray it so peaceful. I love you guys and i wish to taste the food you guys have cooked.

Glad to have these guys in Franklin. Moving back into the area after being out in LA for 14 years makes me feel blessed to have this local place who can bring the world culture food into this small town. When you taste it you will know instantly it was made with love. Live long and Prosper!

-Every person has to have food. But when you transcend that need and say -I want to show you where I'm from, I want to explore your culture by learning what you cook-, that's when there's a different taste that comes, that's when there's a different beauty that comes. -

I'm Turkish like these guys and I really don't like these scumbags, food is nice but these guys are germs in our nation. We have a beautiful country and flag but I can't see any Turkish flag in anywhere because they still want to live in the past.

Great job covering this restaurant Munchies and the guys that run it. I'm guessing Franklin, NY and The Tulip and the Rose Cafe are about to get some heavy traffic coming into town. My clan and i will be visiting from SoCal soon.
