Fresh Farmers Market Vs. Store-Bought Ingredients: Apple Pie Marianne Johnson: Fresh? Hardly To make my apple pie. First I wake up the cow (she loves to sleep in. We milk her and immediately make fresh butter. To make the crust I go through our wheat fields and individually pick out the grains and then mill them myself. I ask our chickens for a couple eggs(make sure the egg hasnt been fertilized. cuz thats a whole new type of pie. I then harvest our sugar cane real quick for some super fresh. uh. sugar. I do run into trouble with ingredients like baking powder but did end up finding some sort of white powder in our sons room and it totally did the trick. people said the pie made them happy and carefree. Gotta love when you take a bite of something and it takes you away. Oh and we get a lot of sugar questions and we always answer the same. As far as white and brown sugar. we think all sugar colors are beautiful. The rest of the ingredients are self explanatory: lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger. you know. all those things grow in our back yard in North Texas Who needs market fresh or store bought ingredients when you can harvest your own cinnamon right? 1. For all the lovelies out there who have a difficult time understanding sarcasm and all its glory. the above steps are 100% true2. I actually wrote this to see how long it takes my wife to wonder why her YouTube notifications are going nuts. Hey babe. might not leave your phone out in the open. you never know who might stumble across it and notice what video you were watching. Never know who could pick it up and pretend to be you. Just sayin. (Oh And please let me know if this long message annoys people and you get a bunch of comments saying you have too much time in your hands)You are welcome Im nice like that. You know you love me. Im awesome.

I feel like there were too many variables other than where the ingredients came from. For example: the type of pan, amount of filling( There was considerably more in the locally sourced one, thickness of the crust, and the shape of the crust ( for instance there appeared to be much more crust of the store bought ingredients pie. She should have made it a blind taste test and not let them know there was a difference in order to get unbiased opinions. P. S. The people commented on stuff like the store bought being much too sweet, and I understand the taste of the apples would be different but didnt she highly suggest that she couldnt get locally sourced sugar? So where did all this extra sickening sweetness come from? ( This is a genuine question because I want to know how much of this is BS and how much is actually accurate)

I liked the idea of the video ( Im a fan of supporting local and small businesses) BUT my problem with this video is the execution. I mean, whats going on with the difference between those 2 pies? Werent they made by the same person? The filling was different, the crust, the amount of filling, everything. I bet the measurements were different too. This wasnt a fair comparison. Also, I would have loved to see the time ( including the trip to buy the ingredients) and money spend. Whenever I go to the market in my city I buy a hella lot more stuff than I do in the supermarket with the same amount of money, the only problem its that it takes me 1. 5hrs to get there because of this my trips have to be planned and coordinated, not just random. Thats a big factor to take into account.

I used to live where I had a dwarf Pippin tree. Most of the apples sold today have some Coxs Orange Pippin in their genetic background. Because these apples came from my front yard, they could not have been any more local or fresher. So, yes, they made the absolute best apple pies and apple sauce. However, if you get certain types of apples such as Pink Ladies, they are actually better eating apples when they are stored for a few weeks. The flavors mellow, but since they have thicker skins, they store very well. So, when you go to your local farmers market, ask questions about the apple type and the suggested purpose. Theres a lot more apple types out there than Granny Smiths.

I live in a farming town and all these ingredients would be readily available for me but Ive never tried to buy locally and honestly its started to bug me. I understand that for others its a little harder to get the fresh eggs and fresh fruit but I honestly have no excuse. Seeing everyone complain about well we arent rich. You definitely dont have to be rich or privileged to shop locally. The eggs sold in my town for a dozen is 3 dollars. If I went to the store it would be 5-6 dollars. People need to realize that buying locally and trying to be better for the environment doesnt mean youll be paying more. You just have to find the right place.

Man this video. It seems so biased? One pie baked in a glass dish, the other in metal so they arent baked exactly the same. The store-bought pie obviously hasnt had as much attention and care when it was prepared. The main message of the video is support local businesses but you can easily send that message across with making the video biased. Make an amazing local ingredient pie and tell people at the end its all local ingredients to see how they react Or atleast blindfold them If I saw the two pies side by side Id instantly think the store bought was worse by looks alone and that was not the point of the video.

While i am all for locally sourced ingrdients, especially organic ones, i did noticed you baked the pies in two different types of pans. That can effect flavor, texture, and how even it cooks. The locally sourced pie was cooked in a glass pie pan(which is my favorite because it bakes more evenly this way)while the store bought pie was baked in what looks like a non-stick metal pie pan (doesnt cook as evenly and non-stick chemicals leech into food and can change flavor) It would have been better to see them cooked in the same way, i. e. glass pie dish.

Pfff yeah but even if you go to the farmers market you can get scammed and pay extra for ingredients that arent local at all It is the case where I live, unfortunately. The farmers will try and sell you the idea that everything is local and that they are traditional farmers, but a lot of them dont grow anything at all. Check out marketplace farmers market on YouTube. So yeah, it is a good idea to buy local but beware of fake farmers because you will be paying extra for something you can get at a Walmart.

This is the worst way to advertise environmentalism. You can advertise it, but theres a line between that and shoving it down peoples throats. Her tone made it seem like she was dimming it down. The really fake reactions dont help. Theyre both still apple pie. One may not be as good as the other, but if you like apple pie you wouldnt hate the other one. Oh, and the cookware change, different crust formation, and obvious filling difference. Advocation done wrong just does the opposite.

Calling BS. Didnt even try to make them equally attractive. If attraction wasnt the same, what else differed? So, lets all go back to eating beets and cabbage all winter? Because at one time, thats what locally sourced. meant. Modern technology and transportation is not killing the planet. Want to know how this world will actually end? Find yourself a Bible and read the book of Revelations. God controls the Earth.
