I tried a 2, 000-year-old mead recipe tasty Dragon359: Mead can be an amazing drink if you stick with fruit and/or sweet spices to make it. For ones with items like veggies and parsley in it, those are much more worth using as cooking wines than actually drinking them.

My husband is a meadmaker. You did great by using sugared honey, which gives it a richer honey taste. Now the rest isn't so good. After placing the Pliny's in a carboy, you need to put a one way aeration top on it to let the gases out or it can explode during fermentation due to the pressure build up. The detritus needed removed from the Meathe before placing in the container, or it'll be too strong (as you found out) It also needed an aeration top, especially with the yeast. It also seemed like a lot of yeast for the amount of mead being made. If you really want to try some good mead, find a meadery close and go sample. My favorite is cyser, which is water, sugared orange blossom honey and apple cider. You can buy a few commercial market ones, such as Camelot, as well. Mead made well is an absolute joy to drink!

Mead can be awesome. But it really depends on how you're making it. I made one that was just Honey, water, yeast and yeast nutrients. For yeast nutrients boil one pack of yeast and add it to the mix. Yeast will cannibalize that stuff. I used a champagne yeast so it was a bright bubbly beverage that packed about 12-13% alcohol.

If it is still sweet, then it hasn't fermented. Try adding some yeast next time. Natural honey will usually produce its own natural yeasts but maybe your honey had been treated or pasteurized.

This was great, but I think you should revisit this subject with a little more info and testing beforehand: D You can make a much more pleasureable concoction than what you just made: P

I love tasty videos but. Why would you think that distilled water with honey would ferment! Also why are you taste testing when you have never had mead before!

That was funny You spit it out but you said it makes you tough. It would be better if you use it as a detox. Then you would be 10 to 15 lbs lighter.
