Love these seed starting videos since I am in the same region and it helps me get an idea of if I am ahead of or behind in the planting season. I grew Brad's atomic grape tomatoes last year, and the first ripe ones on the vine were amazing, but even with regular water and nutrition, they declined rapidly as the season progressed. Had great luck with Kellogg's Breakfast even in a lower light spot. You reminded me I have some Black Krim seeds in my stash that I need to get planted. And I'm trying out San Diego Seed Company's Lucid Gem this season, with great germination so far. And my shishito peppers that I could not get to germinate last year are eagerly popping up this year. Go figure, the seeds are a year older. Vermiculite is my new best friend for my seed starting. I won't be without it going forward.

You two guys are GREAT together. You are the Crosby & Hope, Jerry & Dean, Seinfeld & Costanza, Ferrell & Reilly, Wilson & Vaughn, Rogan & Franco, Damon, & Affleck, Sandler & Schneider, etc. .. of the How to Gardening World. I will let you two choose as to which is which for each of the teams. I love the banter between you and Jacques when you two are working on a project together. And I love the helpful seed starting tips from the both of you. Those were some amazing looking poppies Jacques was planting. Where did he get them? Keep those videos coming. Thanks again!

I'm really excited about doing some gardening of my own this year. I'm a little behind on my seed starting. There might be some frost coming to us still (Oklahoma) so I I'm currently doing Winter Sowing/Soda bottle greenhouses to get them started in peat pellets. Also I really like Verm for the germ. I cracked up so hard when I had that. I'm only really growing a couple of flowers this year (Dahlias and Larkspur) so it will be fun to see how that goes.
Thank you for your tips and the fun watch!

I started sterilizing my seedling mix after planting some QLM (Queen Lime Mix) zinnias and having no germination. I dug down to see what happened to the seeds and actually saw a tiny larva curling out of the now hollow seed husk (maybe fungus gnats. I poured boiling water through the next pots and got good germination. You don't get a lot of zinnia seeds in a pack of QLM so I'm really glad I caught that early.
Oh, and I love you Kev but learn to pick up a cat right! Support the feet! Babka will thank you.

You guys are finding your groove! Love it. But idk, Kevin, I thought you were going all JPrigioni on us there once in a while. jk. I have really been enjoying the content with all the changes, chickens, ponds and whatnot. It's great to get back to the meat and potatoes so to speak though. Congrats to you both on all the hard work.

I never understood why people sterilize their mix before planting into them(I get why the companies do it to avoid molds and whatnot. I always inoculate my mixes with microbial life. Whether that's through worm castings, mycorrhizal fungi or other soluble organic nutrients with added microbial life. A healthy soil food web is key.

Im so glad you agree that the Atomic Grape tomato isnt great. Super pretty, but both texture and flavor were blah. Im with Jacques grow for flavor! Best tasting interesting cherry variety I grew last year is Green Doctor + last years plants are still heavily producing. Always so fun to watch you guys togethercracking me up.

I have spent way too much money on seeds this year. I grow annuals for containers, cut flowers and companion plants. Vermiculite amazing for dusting your seed trays/ modules. Another tip that saved me is using leca in the gravel trays. The roots go into the leca and prevent plants sulking if you forget to pot them up.

I felt that way about the Brad's Atomic Grape the first year I grew it, but I saved seeds for last year and they did great. They're super slow to start fruiting but once they do they blow up. The trick with them is knowing when to pick them because the color makes it hard to know when they're ripe.

Hi, could you do a video on planting tomatoes in Vancouver? Growing up my grandfather grew the best tomatoes, but apparently we have a blight that makes it frustrating to grow here without a greenhouse. Interesting that there are seeds that are resistant to some diseases.

Laughing because i also have a full tray and a half of tomatoes and peppers that i have no idea where i am going to plant them all. I did do a smaller aluminum tray of all flowers but not nearly enough of the ones i want. Just not sure again where they are going to go.

I think Kevin could cosplay Poh from Kung Fu Panda with his straw hat: ) My labrador just rolled in my seedlings in the garden so I'm back to stage 0. :/ I did the seedlings a few days ago, but I should definitely invest in some more seed pods: )

Please support the butt when you pick up the pretty kitty! It's more comfortable for Bobca.
Really enjoy videos like this where you just talk casually as you work. Thanks for the pictures so we can see what you are talking about with the plants.

Those of us in colder climates have to start so many seeds indoors to get a decent growing window, and if we don't sterilize the seed starting mixes, fungus gnats just TAKE OVER. I really enjoyed your seed-starting sessions!
