See the new raised beds I use: Building a raised bed isn't as hard as it seems. I went on a mission to build the simplest and cheapest raised garden beds possible. It took me about 15 minutes to build, and cost about $40 to make. Of course, you could save more if you used salvaged materials, but I wanted this to be applicable to people that don't have anything lying around the house. Learning how to build a raised garden bed doesn't have to be difficult, and you don't have to buy expensive $200 kits or beds from a company if you don't want to. just follow this guide! Materials: Planter wall blocks (found at Home Depot) 6 cu ft. soil (2) 2' 2x6' boards (2) 6' 2x6' boards Twine 1 nails Seeds!

I need help. I made mine a little bigger. 5 x 7. I mixed coconut coir, land and sea compost, mushroom compost and vermiculite. It was about 8 cubic feet. I need to double the amount probably. What else should I use to fill it in because this combination was very costly. Should I use organic top soil?

This is amazing. How have I never heard of these before? We have a couple of raised beds but I need to redo them and this is so perfectly simple and easy. I only hate that I saw this too late for this spring. We already have plants down, but will definitely set this up for summer planting.

I did this one last year and did two levels and grew all kinds of things - very easy to set up. I definitely recommend for the ease of set up (or take down. I grew potatoes, radishes, peppers, and green beans in that garden with potting soil and it worked really well

Thank you for making this great video. I do have a question though. Is this raised bed deep enough to grow tomatoes? I only grow tomatoes and want to make sure I'm not wasting my time and money. But if this is deep enough then I will build it tomorrow. Thank you!

I really like that since I have arthritis this seems ideal. I love squash and it has runners and takes over so one box for squash? I should probably read on pkg how far to plant.
Im gonna try thank you for sharing.

Is it possible to stack one system on top of another using the same method? Would I need to use rebar at the center of the blocks to keep it lined up or would that be unnecessary be unnecessary?
reply

Thank you! Also, if I want to make this taller and I stack another set on top to make it twice as tall the next year. Looking for something I don't I can put a chair next to and weed that way?

can you put a bottom piece in so it can be transported? or does it have to touch the ground for the roots or something? brand new at this, im renting a home so i eventually have to leave lol

Is the string needed after planting? If not, you could just skip the string and nails altogether. Just mark the inside of the wood with a pencil and draw a line in the soil with your finger.

Im going to tape my string in 12 squares to put my garden tiles in straight in a 7x7 bed. For some reason, I was thinking I needed a chalk line. String is so obvious though. Thanks, man!

Can this setup be used on a patio as well? I rent and, while I do have a spacious backyard, I have a shaded patio: D This would be my first garden, so I'm trying to take baby steps.

It is simple, here are a few ideas to give a thought to, water your plot first. Put in some fertilizer when planting. Then plant the plant starting, then water the plants again.

This was SUPER helpful. Thank you for sharing! Do you have any recommended videos or articles about square foot gardening and a list of plant recommendations?

Fantastic idea! We are working on this project now. Also treated our wood with a boiled linseed oil and turpentine mix to keep the wood from degrading.
