If you want to have many plants, you just let one basil plant flower and when the flowers dry up it will spill the seeds around & you will have many plants around growing like weeds. You can also cut the dried flowers & store it and use it to get more plants later.
When the dried flowers are rubbed between your palms, you will see a lot of tiny seeds falling down. collect it to a paper & sprinkle them where you want them to grow.
I have one plant that I have allowed to flower & now I have hundreds of baby plants growing all over like weeds!

I have had basil for awhile now, and they do very well for me. However, towards the end of the season the stems turn woody, and then the plant dies. Im usually able to keep it going by using cuttings or seeds. Will this pruning help prevent that, and if not what can I do to stop that? Im in SWFL, the basil is in a pot in a screened in lanai, and does well until our FL winter (if you can call it winter, lol. Thank you in advance for any help/tips you may have.

He doesnt say. its a bit off topic. but if you take the main growing stem, as he shows. and then cut it off, as he shows, but instead of eating the cut off bit you suspend it is clear rainwater it will start to put out roots within a week and after about 3 weeks it will have all the long hairy roots you need to plant it in the garden. I know because I do this every year. What an amazing plant! Why doesnt everyone grow it?

Is there a tutorial video of the system you are using w/ the plastic tote and the suspended root system in water underneath? I'm trying to grow Holy Basil in my basement and they are growing straight up and w/ very little leaves. I'd like to give your method a try but I'd like to know all the details before try, like what is the cord running into the water? Are you using any fertilizer, etc. Thanks in advance!

My wife has a tiny garden in which she plants a couple basil plants every spring. Then she does absolutely nothing until they start to sprout flowers and then it's 'oh crap' time and she can't keep up with the flowers. So last year, following the video's procedures, I put one basil in a pot and kept it pruned. It had three times more basil than my wife's two plants and she couldn't understand why.

Thank you so much for this video! I was wondering how I could have healthier looking basil plants without having to propagate 20 of them I was always so scared of pruning because I didn't fully understand it and I didn't want to mess up the plant, but definitely going to try it our now!

Thank you. I do let a couple flower though so that the pollinators have nectar as well.
? What are the too early and too late points at which to start pruning?
? Can same thing be done with other herbs like oregano or spearmint?
? How to dry basil (without a dehydrator?

I wish I could share a photo on here and show you what your advice did for me. I grew MASSIVE basil plants. they were super bushy and about 3 1/2 - 4ft tall and about 2 1/2-3ft wide! At the end, I did let them flower for the bees so they could stock up on pollen for the winter.

That's very nice and green and bushy, and the stems do not seem too woody. Do you have as good a luck with Thai basil or a video on that? I HAVE to figure out how to great Thai basil. I've just gotten short woody plants that seem to go to seed immediately.

I am growing basil indoors, and noticed it has attracted some gnats (like very small flies) that seem to be hard to get rid of. I have applied those sticky plastic leaves on sticks inserted in the planter soil, but they do not seem to help. Any advice?

Thank you for this I've seen some of your videos and I want to add some bonsi-style plants to my meditation room to add some fragrance of things that I like and things that I want to work on spiritually as well. This has provided me with a nice basis.

Very helpful demonstration. You explained things very well. I'm wondering about being able to plant different herbs together in the same pot. Are there certain combinations you like and those you wouldn't recommend doing? Thank you!

Thanks for the this information. I've been having some problems with lots of flowering with my basil. This video is going to allow me to know how to prune and get a better and fuller basil bush.

I'm growing Mexican Cinnamon Basil here in Mexico and it has put up a lot of blossoms. It appears that it tends to throw up blooms quickly. Should I cut off all the blossoms?
