Growing thyme is one of the joys of having an herb garden. It spices up so many dishes that it's a staple. but what if you want more of it? Buckaroo: This sort of thing is one of the few times I will use those biodegradable one use extra small cardboard or newspaper/toilet paper roll pots.
The reason is because if you get impatient and plant the thyme too early, there is a very good chance that it won't matter since you aren't disturbing the already grown, or not quite grown yet roots. You never see the roots.
In general there is less chance of root damage.

Now Im so tempted to sneak a sprig, but I cannot do time for stealing thyme! lol
Really though, ty. My thyme got burnt and dampened when I moved them outside, but the tips kept growing green. Theyre ready for transplant, but I wasnt sure if I could bury the burnt foliage. Yay, I can. Thank you for the confidence!

I just repotted the rosemary I propagated from the grocery store. I am starting thyme from the same source today. I have savoury that needs pruning, I called dibs on 2 laurels coming into my local garden centre and Basil will be in a pot as soon as I have room. I have WAY too many grape tomato seedlings right now.

Quick question - all your instructions are quite clear, but saw you use a heating mat in the video. Are you actively using it to provide heat to help rooting? If so, for how many hours per day?
And, thanks much for the great videos, your book, and seeding trays!

I normally don't use a lot of thyme, but, this year I learned to make a thyme and ginger tea for lung issues. I think next year I am going to grow my own thyme since we are using so much of it. Thank you for your video. This seems so very simple!

I love how you say you won't need any speciality tools and stuff for this and then proceed with special scissors and a 'humidity dome' ROFL! Thanks for the video though. I will have to do with ordinary scissors and no 'humidity dome' though.

Thank you so much. I just adore thyme in my cooking and I have a few varieties. I am fortunate that they sell very cheaply at my local garden centre, however, this is great knowledge. Thank you

Can you do it in the winter and stick them outside in a pot? like I have in past with roses and rosemary etc. or does it have to be warm to do it? What season is best to propagate thyme?

A quick, simple and tasty dip recipe-
Use some cheese, salt, little bit of sugar crystal, little cream or some water and thyme, blend it in a jar and taste the heaven.

I placed my thymen in a glass of water and it has been like 4 days, the plant is growing bigger and it even has flowers(i cut down the flowers) but no root growth.

Is woody thyme bad? Can i not eat the stem anymore if its woody? Or can i not use only leafs?
I'm really new to this but my thyme stems has become woody.

Hi. So I dont need to soak it on water for roots to grow before planting like others say. I can straight out put it on soil and it will grow roots right?
