Today we take our seed potato sections from a previous video and plant them in our buckets! I'm using 5 gallon buckets from Ace Hardware, but you can use whatever container you've got lying around the house. I mixed up some compost, peat moss, and perlite, along with a handful of worm castings for the soil mix. After laying down 4 of soil, I placed two seed potato chunks down and covered up with 6 of soil, then watered it in

I agree with respondents who really enjoy your content. One rather shops around when searching for advice on whatsoever subject one needs more information. and I personally reject any host with a massively irritating tone, manner or condescending attitude as well as those who preface their videos with uninteresting and irrelevant preamble before getting to the meat of the issue. Conversely, some hosts refuse to take the time needed to thoroughly explain the reasoning (or experiences) in more complex subjects, and fail to provide the wealth of information gleaned from a topic, such as this, that you presented in multiple videos. You have struck a perfect milieu. I have found, in life, that (much as I love science & peer reviewed data) when an experienced enthusiastic and passionate individual shares the secrets and small tricks of the trade gleaned from YEARS of experimentation, that information is INVALUABLE. I feel such gratitude you are sharing the wealth of your experiences. I also talk to gardeners in my area, AS ALL THE RESEARCH IN THE WORLD can not replace a lifetime of local experience. Micro biomes vary from lot to lot given what structures one has (or lacks, the quality of one's soil, and a myriad of other details. and LOCAL anecdotal information in the form of secrets can greatly impact which varieties or cultivars THRIVE in one's soil. I love talking to those more experienced than I as they tend to be so kind and pass on local and/or general secrets to those who express genuine interest. I encourage people to TALK to/question/interview other gardeners. I have yet to interact with a gardener who was not delighted to offer such help. It is but one way that kindness given repays itself many times over, as STRANGERS will go out of their way to HELP (or mentor) those who eagerly seek out such help.

I followed your method(my first year doing potatoes) and I didn't even have to go to step 3. They were ready to go after about 2 and a half months and I had a ton of potatoes. I was kind of surprised. maybe my climate had something to do with it. It definitely worked though. it makes for a nice little treasure hunt when you dump them. I am gonna let my son do that part next time so he can have some fun.

OMG! Your drawing on the bucket made such an obvious impact to my understanding of how a potato grows I have a sneaky feeling your instructional videos are going to make me look like I knew what I was doing!
Truth is Im brand new at this.
I honestly enjoy everyone of your videos
Thank you so much for sharing the love.

I'd like to reccomend growing taters in a bucket. I planted some in the ground and some in buckets this year. The last month it has rained almost every day and the ditch off of my property is blocked up so its flooded my garden. I had to pull my potatoes early and some were already rotten. The plants in the buckets are fine.

Can you do this method in a 30 gallon plastic can, if so what would be the new dirt ratio and how many potatoes can I plant at once? So I can harvest a higher volume of Taters. Keep up the great videos I have learned a lot over the past couple of months and will be trying new veggies soon.

I saw the video that preceded this one and had to scroll through videos to fine this one and I can't find the next one. Is there an easier way to link a series together so it is easier to finish the series? If it's already done that way, I'm not seeing it

Dude! Your knees! Please take care. Also there are numbers inside a triangle on the bottom of the bucket. Some numbers you should not use with food. Please put disclaimer. I really enjoy learning from you. Very useful vid!

This is my first year growing potatoes and your video answered all my questions in helpful and succinct way. Loved the diagram! Would love to see more of them, especially for root vegetables. Thank you!

Very informative video. keep it up.
I have noticed brown patches on my potato leaf which I have planted in bucket. What could be the reason?
What if plant is growing but no flower bloom?

I was always unhappy with the results of growing potatoes in buckets and containers, they never got very big and just didn't seem to produce very well over all
Put them in the ground if you can

How long does it generally take for them potatoes to grown and ready for harvest in a 5 gallon bucket? Thank you for the drawing, it helps a lot to understand. Did you call them sweet potatoes?
reply

I'm just really trying to find out how to store the potatoes after cut so they harden off. Store in dark and cool? Is it ok if it gets some light? How long do they take to scan over? Thanks!

Just come across your video. Really great and helpful. Perhaps update to only use peat free compost as peat is becoming endangered and as it locks up carbon we shouldnt be using it anymore.
reply

Way too complicated: ) I've had some really good plants by just cutting them up, chucking them into the wood mulch around the garden and usually have a good fist size maybe bigger potatoes.

Does anyone have a suggestion for peat moss and perilite brands? I am afraid of using things that dont clearly say it can be used for vegetables like Miracle Grow brands
