Pineapple is an EASY plant to grow if you give it what it needs. In Part 1 of my pineapple growing guide, we'll cover basic care requirements for pineapples, along with pineapple propagation from the ratoons, or pups that form at the base of the mother plant

Thats a great video! Thanx for uploading. I have an important question and hope you can answer it. My pineapples are 8 years old and huge, with 2m long leaves. Its a jungle! So. i am from Austria and its not only cold in Winter but also in early fall or autumn the temperatures can ger down to between 10 and 14 degrees Celsius in the night and morning hours. From the age of 2-4 years i tried to put them out in summer, starting with a warm shady place but they didnt like the temperature up and downs, they hated rain, get burned from bird shit, had wet roots all the time and the leaves turned bright green and yellow with sprinkles of brown burning stains from whatever. They where not made for the rough nature i guess, because everytime i took them back to theyr kitchen window, the turned dark green again and get a grow boost. But indoors theres always a lot of dust on the leaves. can i clean them carefully with a sponge and lukewarm water? Only the surface. Not under the leaves where the trichomes or stomata breathing holes. Or is the oben side as fragile as the underside? I dont want to harm them

Oh and to tell if A pineapple is ripe at the store it doesnt really matter what color it is you can just tug on the very center leaf that you can find and if it comes out easily that means its ripe and dont forget to check the bottom to make sure there is no white moldy stuff. Youll be good every time take it from a pineapple eating crow and also dont eat a pineapple every day because it will eat away the animal of your teeth. I wish somebody told me that before it happened to me and now I cant eat it anymore and Im really sad. The dentist said oh pineapple the fruit that its you! good to know

My daughter bought me a pineapple plant about 2 years ago with the fruit. I am so-oooo enjoying it. I finally cut the fruit off, removed the top, and the mother and top are doing well. I grew the top in water. But when I finally planted it, it started turning yellow/brown. Gave it to my neighbor in hopes she can save it(She's better with plants than I am)
About 2 months ago I discovered baby on my mother plant! It's growing strong and rather fast. Thanks to you and your video, you showed me how to remove the baby! I hope I can continue to grow the pup! What fun!

two months ago I through some pineapple seeds (maybe 10) in a pot with a newly planted branch of rosemary and put the pot in my balcony. While watering it whenever I remember to, the rosemary dried and died but apparently one pineapple seed is growing. The first time I saw the green leaves coming out I didn't believe my eyes but I kept watering it. Now it's about 20 cm high and the leaves still thin, I guess it's going to take 10 years before I harvest any fruit if it doesn't die and if I keep taking care of it, so, please do you have any advice for me?

I ive never seen them drilled out at the store but sometimes they have been frozen for shipment and it destroys the plant tissue so you cant regrow them Ive tried regrowing from the crowns and nothing happened and then earlier this year I bought a pineapple from Walmart and I tried cloning the crown by putting it in a medicine bottle full of water and it only took 9 or 10 days now and the roots are over a once long

Thanks for this! I accidentally left my store-bought pineapple plant (Patty) sitting in water and she started to droop. I quickly removed the water and hoped she would dry out. Then I decided to repot (before watching this DOH) and used part compost, part cactus soil, part perlite I transferred her into the new pot, left her unwatered but shes still droopy Shes in full sun does little Patty the Pineapple have hope?

For people who dont know when you buy a pineapple at the store you can check the bottom few leaves and pull them off and or look between them to see if theres roots those are the best ones to start and also you can just twist the top to take it off a lot of websites say to cut off the top but then youre left with that fruit stuck to it and its annoying you can just twist it its much easier!

I've not grown pineapples yet but i have a dwarf cavendish banana tree that grows in a very similar way with suckers or pups that continuously grow from the bottom of the mother plant to be able to continuously grow bananas when the mother plant dies as soon as you pick the fruit. Really interesting plants and absolutely amazing to have for self sufficiency!

So why do the tops take so long? Also, would it help it root if we trim off some of the leaves on the bottom? Kind of like from watching you propogate herbs, removing larger bottom leaves reduces energy need for leaves and distributes more energy to roots. Wonder if that'd help speed it up? Definitely gonna try with this pineapple I just got.

My neighbour two doors down was furtively growing one in a pot right outside his gate hidden behind some taller plants lol. It was already huge when I noticed it was there and I enjoyed watching it ripen day by day. One day I went outside and noticed they had harvested it. It looked delicious

In NZ they cut the tops off before they're imported to prevent strange insects coming into the country. When I was a kid I grew one from a top (before the tops were routinely cut off) and it was doing so well until my mum decided she wanted it in a different room and it died: (

ah yes. I bought a pineapple plant, but not enough dirt and no sand. I had some jungle mix dirt from my old gecko. Not sure if my pot is big enough too. I guess I gotta buy a bigger pot and more dirt.
never mind, I found more dirt for it haha

I just bought 2 pineapples for $18 ea and most nurseries have them for $50 ea. I'm wondering what type of soil they like acidic or Alka? I'm guessing acidic as I've read they prefer moist soil. I grow with compost, worm castings and dry amendments.

So those shoots at the bottom, can we just leave them there and will grow pinepples right there? Or we need to transplant them in order for those shoots to grow pinapples?
And the plant gives only one pinapple in its lifetime?
