Starting a Formal Garden Garden Answer Robyn: Hey Laura, I am really glad that you showed an infant garden and yes you are right that so many people do get discouraged. This spring I planted 140 bulbs, 20 rose bushes and then my veggie and herb garden. I was feeling discouraged because I could not see a huge difference. One day last week, I was at the back of my yard and turned to walk towards the front. All of a sudden, I saw beautiful flowers. I then realized, the way I had planted was for an audience of people on the outside, looking in, and I was always on the inside looking out, and therefore didn't see it. LOL

Laura, I can't wait to see the update in the spring! Praying that your harsh winter hasn't killed off your boxwood. Thank you for blessing us by sharing your lovely garden with us: ) You have given me so much inspiration and now my family thinks I have become obsessed with my yard which is basically a clean slate, all 3/4 of an acre! You are so blessed to have a nursery in the family! Little by little, I will beautify my yard here in Southern Utah, Lord willing! I can't wait for spring! Your tulips will look amazing! LOVE THE PURPLES!

Hi! Love your videos! Had a suggestion for you guys. I always love seeing before and after videos. Maybe you guys can piece together some of this video and some from your april tour where the hedge is all filled in. I was planning on planting a hedge myself and a before and after like this would be perfect. Gives one a great idea of what the next few years of waiting would be like.

Could you do a video of this garden showing the progression of flowers blooming from spring through fall?
I'm doing a circular garden in my front yard. It will be the focal point. 14 ft in diameter. There will be a water feature with electrical wiring for pumps and possible lighting.
I am trying to put together a planting scheme for continuous blooming from spring to fall.

Thank you for your ending comments. I love your videos so much! You always add in the exact answers, tips and tricks as I think of questions. And you're spot on with the emotions of gardeners. Yes, it will take time for your new plantings to mature into your vision, but hearing your insiteful reminder to remain patient is refreshing. Keep making videos! They're wonderful!

Thank you for pointing out that gardens don't start out mature. It should be obvious, but defeat is exactly what I felt when we finished planting some of our hydrangeas. Looking forward to down the road. It was really nice to see the early stages of this project. :)

I live in North Carolina and I am not able to find either of the planting composts you mention in this vid here in the state. do you know how I may get them or do you have suggestions for planting composts that I may find here in the Raleigh/Durham area?

This is great example, especially your comment that this is start of a garden, people think that they can have finished product in split of a time. I just have a question, what do you think about idea to plant some decorative grasses in this mix?

I've noticed in your videos that after you plant something you don't water it. Aren't you supposed to water your plants while you are planting them? I thought you are supposed to water the hole before you put the plants in. Is that true?

I need to see more of these circular flowerbeds. We have been building one in our front yard out of an old tree area. I'm not sure what I'm going to do there yet but it will be the focal point of the front yard so has to be good.
