Repotting African Violets
video description
So my violet has been blooming all year 'round and it's been growing nice huge leaves. The problem is that it faces a window and so it's growing towards the direction of the light. I can literally see the back of the plant on the other side. I tried rotating the plant to encourage it to even out, but I think it's beyond saving at this point. Anyway, I want to repot the plant so that it's facing up so it doesn't lean over as much and so more of its leaves will receive sunlight. The problem is that the main stem is also literally curved. So I'd like to know if replanting it the way I want to would cause any harm?

The favorite nursery I worked at was a 20 acre a nursery growing African Violets. Every day was a treat as the colors we always changing as plants were sold and new plants started to flower. We had 20 different varieties that were sold regularly as well as small batches of specialty Violets. We had our own breading program and many of the varieties were patented. It is sad that the nursery went out of business because the owners decided they could make more money selling the land then continuing to produce plants.

I am re-putting my African violets in a self-watering ceramic pot cz I've noticed every time I fertilize the Terra-cotta soaks up the fertilizer so when the stems lean on the top of the terra-cotta pot they burn & die. I Have them on a shelf by an east window & leaves are very healthy but not too many blooms: ( since I've been using Espoma African violet fertilizer it finally bloomed this week (May) after 2 years of not blooming at all. Well, hopefully repotting them will save my violets: )

The Wick Watering process for African Violets is one style, I find helpful. Also VERY handy are plain plastic spoons to gently work around /or push down the soil under the AV leaves. Works great as opposed to my clumsy fingers. Bulb syringe watering IS MY GO-TO for watering my succulents AV. ! Thnx for reading. My old fashioned style's work well.

Hi, Ive had great success with my violets but sometimes the flowers are blocked from coming up in the middle of the plant by the leaves. so the flower often come out sideways. Id like to get them all in the middle. is it okay for me to remove some leaves from the middle so the flowers can grow unobstructed? Thanks for your guidance. Bill

I have a violet that had leaves break off. Good healthy leaf, and so I just poked a hole and stuck the leaf in pushing soul around it in the same pot. I noticed today there are babies coming from those leaves. Do I need to repot and separate or can I just repot to a slightly bigger pot for the whole?

Thanks so much for the helpful video! I have a question. My African violet has a lot of new healthy leaves growing in the middle/center of the plant. They are blocking the new blossoms. Should I get rid of the leaves? My only hesitation is that they look so healthy and I feel bad removing them.

I inherited a basket with 5 African violets similar to the one you show at the end of the video. Whats the best way to water these? Top of soil but avoid leaves? All the pots have survived the move except one pot that Im trying to return to health. Thanks in advance for the advice!

Is there an orchid in with the large pot of African Violets? And what is the plant in the background that looks kind of like asparagus? Love your videos! So informative and great ideas. You are thorough but precise and quick in delivering information.
