Amaryllis Done Blooming? Here's What to Do Garden Answer CPT_Walt: Love the vid but I need more info: ) I am in Florida and I can plant them inside or out, keep them in the garage or keep them on the back patio or under some shade trees. Not sure what exactly to do. I have 2 bulbs that I got as a gift and I want to keep them. Do you have a link to what pot I should use? Also, after you cut off the long stems and they are done, I am not sure what to do next. Am I supposed to plant it inside or outside? Can I keep it in the same metal pot it came in? Also confused about putting them out and then not watering them? Can you do a step by step on exactly what to do with each bulb if I plan to keep them inside? Many thanks! What if they are rotten? I watered mine Way too much and I think I drowned one of them, should I pitch it or do like some have said and wrap that one in a newspaper and let it dry out? Many thanks again!

How many years does an amaryllis plant take to grow large enough to produce a bloom? I have several I have raised from seeds that are about 5 yrs old. My daughter gave me the mother plant 6 yrs ago and she has bloomed 4 times since. I gathered seeds last spring and have 4 healthy little ones growing. I also live in zone 5 but I have never put my mature plants outside for fear of them drying out. Live in SW Colorado and our sun is very intense. We have no root cellar and our basement is half above ground so I have no cold place for them to be dormant. Can they be taken out of the pots and wrapped in newspaper and placed in a refrigerator? I do have a refrigerator in our garage but I cannot put the full pot inside it.

Beautiful thanks for your help! I don't think I knew that some people don't expect this flower to re-bloom! Mine is entering its third Christmas season, and this past year, it actually bloomed twice (December-ish 2020 and the spring time 2021. As I reflect on it, my plant's 'dormancy' period was probably be 'ignoring' it on an indoor window ledge (facing the westside of my home that got lots of shade in the spring and summertime, with very infrequent watering. Not sure what effect this makes, but I also don't trim or cut the stalks, which grow all year long. I am now getting ready for it to bloom again. around THIS Christmastime! Great content!

I ended up with long floppy leaves like outta control! Ive tried to tied them now to help them not bust bend they look awful! Im not willing to give up on these supermarket buys which seemed so small to start with however, I was lucky to find any at all during the pandemic in 2021 Thanksgiving season in which only (2) actually bloomed beautifully! The one that had not bloomed only grew a flower bud that never opened at all! Anywho thanks for the video info wish they made pots styled to house super long leave bulbs!

I was given an Amaryllis for Christmas about three years ago. And I was too lazy to open the box and plant it. Weeks later I finally opened the box and found a tiny shrivelled plant - little leaves, little dried up flower, dried out bulb. I felt so guilty I immediately planted it and belatedly nurtured it. Nothing much happened, except a few leaves here and there. But now - EASTER - and I have two lovely blooms. I'm amazed how tough they are.

I am in zone 9 and I have them outside my front door. When they bloom I have the same problem with them falling over. I get 3 flowers on each stem and they are the beautiful white ones you have there. However, mine has very flopply leaves. They don't stand up as pretty as yours do. Also, mine only bloom in spring. Maybe because of the zone difference? What am I doing wrong that the leaves are so floppy?

I live in the Houston Texas area and we had a 100 yr freeze this year of 14 degrees. night and 19 degrees day temps for 3 days. I was concerned about them as I do plant them in the ground with outstanding results and they came up and bloomed gloriously this Spring. They of course don't bloom at Christmas as it is cold here, but I always look for their early display. JFYI.

I am in zone 4, so after forcing the bulb inside and in water only, i plant it outside after all danger of frost. it grows all summer long and gets on more leaves. then after the leaves die out, i clean and keep the bulb in the fridge until early November when we start the cycle again. my bulbs become smaller each year, so i do buy new ones on sale just in case.

My uncle lives out in the desert. He has amaryllis plants planted in a north facing planter where they get some morning sun but shade from the brutal afternoon sun.
He places pistachio nut shells all around his plants. Dont know if theres something about those shells but his bulbs come up each and every year absolutely beautiful. Perhaps for decades.
