How to Care for Christmas Cactus Garden Answer Beth: I found the perfect spot in my home for my Thanksgiving cactus. It starts blooming around November 1st and is filled with big blooms. The blooms last 2 to 3 weeks and then starts again every 3 weeks or so and keeps it up until Spring! It is in a upstairs cooler room facing the East and every Spring I set it back about 6 feet from the window and then move it back to a foot from the windows in October. It is about 10 years old. I keep it setting on a bed of pebbles with water in the bottom but not up to the bottom of the cactus pot. I also have a little humidifier running in the room in winter months.

Can I like this video about 100 times? Just love all the info you gave here. Im a struggling house plant parent. I love them but they dont love me back. I just bought 2 tiny cacti, one a Christmas and one a Thanksgiving. I gave one to my daughter and honestly didnt know which one was which. I now know I have the Christmas and my daughter has the Thanksgiving. Mine has been on the window ledge and it doesnt look happy. Its drooping. The soil is always dry but I was afraid to over water. Now I know I can water at least once a week. Thank you! We will see if I can keep this one going, haha.

Should I remove the beautiful floral paper that they have the pot covered in? I did cut a hole in the bottom for drainage instead it on some paper towels and a couple paper plates to draw any extra water this plan had been removed and discounted because of new plants coming in it looks pretty healthy a bed dropped as soon as I got it home it had three blooms that were wilting that I pinched off is it okay to cover at night with my husband's handkerchief to give it some darkness and keep it a little warmer at night

Great tutorial, and as I just bought one, I'll see which one it is. Had no idea that there were Thanksgiving and Christmas and how many also consider the Easter cactus as one of the family. This help me so much. If anyone can help me with mine, as I got one many years ago, and didn't know how to care for it so it sadly died. But I have a beautiful pot, believe it's porcelain pot that my new cactus will look beautiful in. She mentioned clay pot, but has anyone potted theirs in anything else but clay pot?

My husband suffered a cardiac arrest 2 yrs ago. I performed cpr the fire department shocked his heart back. The was unresponsive so was put in medical coma to recover. He made a full recovery and his physical therapist who cared for him gave us Christmas cactus clippings and they are now three beautiful plants. She was a wonderful person and everytime I water them I am reminded of how wonderful life is.

I love her. She is an amazing visionary in the field of garden design. As well as extremely knowledgeable. Her husband behind the scenes is the wind and muscle under her wings. There is another supporter and supervisor. The cat Cheddar. A red tabby who insists on popping up to everyone's delight. I really enjoy her videos.

I have two different Cactus, which thanks to you I learned that what I thought was my Christmas Cactus is my Thanksgiving Cactus Also I have one that blooms in Easter. Which I was always wondering why, because again I thought that there was only one kind. Thanks for the tips and I love your watering can. Take care.

What time of year do you recommend pruning?
I inherited my mother-in-laws cactus that we discover is easily 100 years or more old! No pressure right? I have propagated from it so many times! I have starts going for my children as well! AND I learned from you that it is a Thanksgiving cactus! Who knew.

My cacti don't read a calendar and bloom profusely in October into November! Then ago in the spring. I also have a yellow one but never seen them anywhere else. It is a heavy bloomer and grows like a bad weed. Anybody else familiar with the yellow ones?

We live in zone 9b in CA, and have grown both Christmas and Easter cactus outdoors year round. They are in huge pots kept under the house eaves so no frost gets on them. Bloom every year and the blooms last for months. We love them.
