Spring Planting Day! Garden Answer NSpector: Interesting -- I have an old lilac that is original to our house (my mom's house where I have my garden. For some time, I've been able to cut back a lot of it and have new growth come up. But the last time I did that, about five years ago, I got no new growth. The one small trunk I left remained, but nothing new. This past fall, we took down a huge old oak that was was shading it. I thought that would help. It didn't. Then, just the other day, while I was working around it, I touched some of the old stumps. They were totally rotted out. I could easily pull them out of the ground. The only one that doesn't seem to be rotting (not that I can tell yet) is that one trunk I left five years years ago. I went inside to look up the life span of a lilac tree/bush. As a lot of you might already know, it's about 100 years, which is exactly how old my mom's house is THIS year! And it's definitely an original planing. So. I don't know. I really do not want to loose what I have. I may just leave it, small as it is and plant around it sort of planing for its departure. Some old plants are really hard to get rid of. And it's old even to us, as my mother has owned this house since 1983.

Hi Laura, I love your videos. Never miss one. I don't always read the comments so there is a chance that you have been asked this before and even answered it. Sometimes, when I'm trying to plan out a task I try to figure out how much time I have. I totally understand speeding up when you are doing a chore but would it be possible to let us know how long something actually took you to do? Maybe after the speed through some edit that says - (actual time 2 hours) or something? You make everything look so easy and yet I know you spend so much time out there.

You are calling them Oak Trees, but those tree's look more like Popular tree's because they are bushy at the bottom and growing straight up. Oak tree's usually have big trunks and lots of limbs more like a big old apple tree. If they are Popular they will have a deep, deep tap root. I used to live in SE Texas where Oak Tree's grow and those don't look like Oak Tree's. Oak Harbor is our town and we have many Oak Tree's brought here by the Dutch people. Hope you find this interesting and thanks for your video's.

Awesome! love it when you start your spring planting! love the poppies they are just gorgeous plants, so happy to see the different varieties of poppies and now I can hunt for some for my yard. Loving the Curly Locks Willow, it is so cool looking and of course Russell is just so adorable. Bummer about hitting that pipe, funny Aaron laughing at you, just love the two of you. Thank you Laura, always so much fun to see your videos, see you in the next one, bye for now.

I am NOT a proponent for removing trees and I ADORE trees, ESPECIALLY oak trees, but I'm SOOOOO happy that you've decided to remove those oak trees! They are just unsightly. I've never seen oak trees with that growth habit and it makes me sad to say this, but they're just ugly. (Poor oak trees! ) I'm with you 100% that I'd rather have a blank space in my garden/yard than to have something in it that doesn't bring me joy, isn't thriving or aesthetically pleasing.

Watching videos to pass my laid off quarantine time. I dont know if you've done this or if this has been mentioned before, but you and Aaron should make a layout of your property and where you have drip tubes and piping, so you can just glance at it before planting and see if you'll be hitting anything.
Love your videos and I cant wait ro see more Spring videos this year

hit a pipe yeah. that's my worst fear when I dig. I really enjoyed watching your thought process on plantings and appreciated that you didn't really have a full plan in place until you were in it. I say landscaping is having a set plan while gardening is creating, and often revising, as you go. I'm in the latter category myself.

My alarm bells went off when you said you were planting lemon balm in the ground. I did that and it took over my beds. I never did get rid of it before we moved from that house, but I learned my lesson. You know what you're doing, so I'm not too worried. Hope you don't regret this decision. Lisa

I love these random projects and listening to your thought processes. Your very inspiring and honestly peaceful. Oh and by the way, would've totally been okay watching you and Aaron organize the things from the shed. Sooo satisfying seeing organization come together and clean things: )

Hey Laura. I have an acre site most of which is grass. I want to section a lot of it into stoned / pebbles to turn it into low maintenance area. so I guess the question is the best way to do this and how would I stop the pebbles mixing into the grass. Any help would be appreciated.
