Mixing up Acidic Soil to Plant Blueberries!
video description
I am just wondering if I should really add any sulfur or soil acidifier, OR IF the potting soil may be acidic enough? I can mulch it with some needles from a spruce tree? And, IF I did, would it help lower the PH?
So far the little newly planted patio blueberry tree is putting on new leaves that are pink so far.
But, it had been planted from one of those boxed plants that are all over the place in spring.
You see them in early spring and you may buy them if they seem to show some live growth because at that point, you are eager to buy something after a long winter. And, you maybe like me want some fresh fruit. Long story short, I bought mine and they did have a bit of green growth on them in the store, or I would have never bought them. THEN, they looked like they MAY have died, but, now they are putting on new leaves so I am happy.
BUT, I do wonder if maybe that Vigaro potting soil is too neutral? Or do I need to acidify the soil?
My native soil is a neutral PH of 6. 8 to 7, so, the container with potting soil is best anyway.
Okay, so it takes about 2 weeks for the soil to break down the sulfur to make the soil more acidic. And heat helps that take place. My blueberries will most likely not produce any berries until next year.

Unless they are dwarf varieties, two in one pot is crowded. The varieties you planted get to be 6' wide and tall. You did say the growth was less in a pot. Blueberries can live 50 years. The patriot blueberry gets huge berries! They're northern highbush. I know this because I was researching blueberries for where I live, which requires southern highbush. I really enjoy your videos, but you're costing me a small fortune! I'm going to try that jug sowing that you had a video about!

Have you shown an update on your blueberries yet? Its getting to that time for the garden centers to have them and dont want to go overboard on cost if I dont have to. If you did an update in your question and answer videos could you please add that to your resource list? Please please please. I also found bird netting at the DollarTree. Thank you for all you do to educate and allowing us to come along on your familys journey. Happy Spring!

Really helpful, you know I have been struggling with finding acid soil mix in my area, and just couldn't get the recipe which works. I use this recipe which I found somewhere on the internet and is 50% peat moss and 50% compost or soil, the result is 50: 50, I guess I could use your recipe but in my case I want to grow it in the ground not in pots. Thanks

New to Gardening. I am starting blueberries and just started rasberry, and they need acid loving soil. Is it safer to buy the acidic soil from a store or is it safe to buy miracle gro acid loving plant food to alter the ph of the soil? Im not actively measuring the ph but it says to use that plant food ever 7-14 days so I just do this its entire life? Please help

In my garden I never use nets over anything because I always plant enough fruit trees and berries for me and the birds. I let my trees grow high and the birds eat the fruit I cant reach. I like to give back to nature because nature has given us so much. And with that Ive never gone without fruit or berries but the opposite. The more you give the more you receive.

I have 5 plants of 2 different varieties and would like to plant them in the ground here in Northeast WI, but being my garden was originally an alfalfa field, the Ph is around 7. 0 - wondering if I could just swap out a big hole of native soil and replace with an acid mix normally used for potting (with peatmoss?

Hi I have a question for you, I have two two years old blueberries potted plants, I'm worry because two days ago mixed the blueberries soil with organic acidifier soil, one cup to each one, my question is, they could get burned due too much soil organic acidifier. please what can I do if happen.

Hi Laura, whats the best way to lower the PH of the soil after the plant is already in the ground. Our soil here in central Washington is around 7Ph. I added some Espoma Acidifier before planting and have been adding small amounts of brewed coffee but wonder what to do next. Thanks, Teresa
