How We Winterized Our Chicken Coop!
video description
I wonder why, though, you don't allow them to wander about your gardens. I know they pp everywhere, but they eat a lot of insects.
Anyway, fun video. TFS!

Rice MUST be cooked otherwise it will harm them as it will swell once they ingest it. Do you have crushed oyster shells or some grit for them as well? To help them digest.
Try to avoid chemicals around and in coop (predator repellent/odor deodorant); those things leech into the eggs you eat.
Whatever you feed or expose them to WILL leech into the eggs you eat.

Im sure you e figured it out at this point, but for your chicken guard, the control panel needs to be much closer to the door itself. I believe directions say around 3 inches. Probably burned the motor. Good company though, they have a three year warrantee - so if youre still within that window they will help!
Thanks for another great video.

I love how you winterized the run, the heat lamp makes me cringe but knowing you got rid of it this year gives me a lot of relief.
I would love to do my run like yours, plexiglass is expensive but so is buying the plastic we do every year.
I will have to see if I can do it in the near future, will take a lot of saving.

How big is the coop itself? What about the run? How many chickens do you keep in that size area? Sorry for the interrogation, I'm trying to decide the size coop/run I want and am struggling. I'm in the Pacific NW, RAIN and MUD. Do you free range your chickens at all or are they kept confined? I am really liking your set up!

I have dreams of being a mama hen and I kept thinking about doing something like this one day. Glad to see someone else has done this and thank you for sharing. Your chicks have an amazing home! If they would let us have chickens where we live I would be doing this now but you have inspired my chicken dreams! lol

I'm curious about what happened to your chickens. I watched a video of your initial flock count which was 10 but you said in this video that you have 4 healthy birds. Is it common that they get sick or did you have a predator issue. We have a lot of raccoons in our area and hawks, how should I protect them?

Did you say you were going to take the roof off the run? If so, I hope it is covered with hardware cloth, because hawks are one of chickens most dreaded predators, they can fly right in. Forgive me if you have already covered this, I just dont want to see you lose your chickens.

Meanwhile. Homesteaders that have chickens are calling you out. totally fake video! Chickens poop on everything. Yet literally nothing in there ( the fan, trash can, bucket, etc) had poop on it. It's a cute set up but no homesteader who actually had chickens believes this.

Half my chickens stay in the tree above the coop with the rooster! Even in the snow! I chased them around a few evenings but have given up and let them up there if they want to be. I dont think the cold really bothers them, they never even stopped laying!
