How I Water in the Winter!
video description
I got a question, Im planting hyacinths and tulips in a huge containers in my back yard as cut flowers. If there would be snow on top of the plastic containers. Do I still need to water them?
Also, Do I need to elevate the pots off the ground to make sure it has better drainage?
The containers will be sitting on a concrete floor. Just want to make sure they will bloom next year. My last years bulbs didnt bloom at all and I want to make sure I get it right this time. Is it because I didnt water them? I changed my larger containers and made sure theres a lot of drainage this time.
Lastly, Im also planting lots of spring bulbs this year on the ground in our front yard. What bulbs that needs to be dug out in the summer? I have tulips, hyacinths, and alliums.
Let me know. Thanks!

Hi Laura. I really enjoyed the walk through of watering outdoor plants. I would really appreciate it if you would show us exactly how you water your house plants as well. I really need to see how much water you give and how you check to make sure they do or do not need water. I am able to keep houseplants alive but would really like to make them thrive. I just got a three tier grow light system like yours and also would appreciate knowing which plants thrive under grow lights and which do not like to be under grow lights. I might be too late with this comment for the weekly update video but my plants would love this info. Thanks so much for all you do.

Ok maybe I did something wrong. In your video you mentioned you don't water plants that have frozen soil. I live in GA and I have frozen soil in all my pansy pots. Rock hard frozen - we've had several days of weather in the teens at night and barely above freezing in the daytime so none of them have had the chance to thaw. I've taken warm water out to all of them as they all looked like they were dying of thirst. I hope I didn't mess up? Please let me known how you handle plants in frozen soil that aren't getting water and looking bad. thanks Laura!

This is not really a question as much as it is a suggestion. It would be really neat to see you make a video where you redid an area and show clips of it before and now. Like an area where you moved in and you totally transformed it to something new. For example the area behind the chicken coop. Now that you've planted a lot of stuff and took down a tree in that area I think it would look cool to see what it looked like when you moved in and what it looks like now that the plants have had a few years to grow.

Great video! I bet this watering day lasted 5 times longer than usual! Thank you for taking the time to show us. Loved seeing the pairings of winter interest plants in your containers. Especially the hellebores with the white pansies and spruce. Also enjoying seeing the path you take through your property to water them. It felt like I was walking along right with you enjoying the birds singing! :)

Do you water your containers with bulbs in the cold frame just as lightly or more heavily? I have some bulbs in containers in the garage and every time I water, Im afraid Im overwatering because I dont stop watering until water comes out the drainage holes. Also, my containers are heavy as if the potting mix is still wet, but the top of the mix is cracking as if its dry. Should I water?

I noticed the camera angle at the end of the drive showed the giant mulberry tree that lost a big branch a while back and you'd mentioned at the time you were getting an arborist to come inspect it. Since it's still there, does that mean it's healthy and you can keep it, or does it have to be replaced this year?

I love how you took your time and went slow through this video! All the close up details like putting on gloves and filling up the bucket are so relaxing to me: ) I just want to add hearing the birds and background sounds while you quietly worked was so relaxing, as well. love this style! Hope you continue it!

Laura - have you ever thought about doing a behind the scenes video where you show how you go about filming? This video was so interesting with all the different shots and using the drone. I just thought it might be kind of neat to see how you and Aaron make those types of decisions. Love your videos!

Watching you do all your winter watering makes me grateful that we have a couple of feet of snow. Thankfully (or not depending on perspective ) I will not have that chore until May. Did you guys get a new camera? The video was really crisp. very nice! Was a peaceful video!
