10 Flowers You Can Still Plant From Seed in the Middle of Summer! Garden Answer Sandy: Laura, you have just encouraged me to plant some seeds this week! I have no idea what will happen, but I don't care! If they grow and bloom, it's a bonus! If they don't do well, I think we don't have as long a period of warm summer weather as you do (I live in Vancouver, Canada. I have a question about a soaker hose that I have. I bought it quite a long time ago and just brought it out and used it overnight. In the morning, the soil was not very wet and I was wondering if you could suggest anything I could do to the hose to increase the water release. Poke holes. but how? The hose feels like a small rubber tubing, covered by fabric. PS - I liked the planting music!

Morning glories self seed LIBERALLY and the seeds require zero babying as far as soaking, in my experience. Planting them in July may help keep the seeds (up to five per flower) from maturing and coming back, but the primary leaves are very distinctive, so it's easy-ish to pull them if they try to come back next year, you will just have to keep on top of it. I have partly surrendered and pull the feral ones aggressively until some time in July, and plant new varieties early to mix up the ambient genome in my yard. Last year was dark pink/red and this year I've added some striped flowers!

What's California poppies I'm having trouble getting them to grow here in High Desert California where we have a lot of sand for soil I see them growing in other people's yards in the spring too early summer and then they're gone but I've only had maybe one out of many many seeds take and then they die off I do not know what I'm doing wrong so if anyone else is out there in California Land north of San Luis Obispo California around Atascadero or Paso Robles or Templeton area of California please let me know what to do thank you Margie

Zone 7b here. I sowed marigolds at the end of July and the flowers lasted into early December. I remember looking at my marigolds while planning Christmas gifts Signet and French were the longest lasting. African are more frost sensitive so they perished in late October. Bachelors Buttons are actually recommended to be sown in fall for a robust display of blooms in spring, better than blooms from spring-sown seeds. Their seedlings are very cold tolerant and can survive winter without protection.

I was so late planting everything this year. Definitely in good company. My question isn't so much about your plantings, but how do you deal with critters? I am battling skunks like crazy. I love my yard & garden and have worked for 10 years to get my soil better than pure sand. BUT now I have skunks in my yard, to feast on all the bugs and worms in the soil. Do you have any tips or advice to deal with unwanted critters? Love your videos and all the helpful advice. Thanks.

Laura I like that your planting lot of cut flower seed as I would love to do that if I had your garden space and was about 30 years younger. So I'm just planting perennials in zone 8b. Everything is up and looking good. Thanks for your wonderful video's. By the way Batchler buttons here a perennial and they spread. Are the Allium Serdipity are the bulb edible?

Thank you so much! I always learn something new from you, and this time you hit the things Im looking for: late-blooms in the garden! ANd what lovely selections you have. The amaranth is very intriguing. .. . Need to try that. And the Mexican tango sunflower! Fantastic Fall colors!

I grow Tithonia every summer. They have the most beautiful orange color Ive ever seen on any flower. They are pretty good as cut flowers too, but dont last too long in a vase. They attract hummingbirds and bees and butterflies. The bush can get rather large so allow room for it!
