Planting a Butterfly Garden with Benjamin! Garden Answer Tracy: A question about mulch. .. Which is better? For years I've been using mulch made from forest debris because it adds nutrients to the soil as it breaks down but it needs replenishing every year. This year there seems to be a lot of cedar mulch around, it lasts much longer so you save money but you end up missing the nutrients that you get from the other kind. Then there is the rubberized mulch which I really know nothing about, does it break down at all, does it reflect the heat so you risk scorching your plants. Which one is better?

Children like to wander so the center should have been planted with a meandering path between the fence line plantings and the center. Children want to get close to butterflies while they are on the flowers. It will be difficult for Benjamin and Samantha Rose to see the butterflies on the back plantings. Also a shallow water feature in the center was the smarter idea. They love to touch water and can watch the butterflies and birds grabbing a drink. Beautiful plants.

I think Benjamin is such a lucky boy to have such a fun mom, my parents never discouraged my love of plants and gardening, but they never dedicated a spot or nursery trip for me, I think such a prime location and pretty fence is great to encourage Benjamins love of gardening: D Also, so jealous that you have PW Thumbergias, I only get the fertile varieties here in Costa Rica and they turn into nightmares and weeds: (

Butterflies love rotting fruit. Anytime I get a banana too ripe to eat(and no time to make bread, I just squish it open and put it out for them. They always find it. I also put colorful sponges in the bird bath for them to have an easy place to get some water. :) Loved this project, and I look forward to some butterfly videos!

I think this was such a great idea. I really enjoyed watching and hearing the excitement in Benjamin picking out the flowers for his garden, and watching him put the flowers where he wanted them was priceless. I think a good idea would be to put Benjamin's Garden with his handprint on the stepping stone. Just a thought!

Three year-olds are awesome indeed! Benjamin has such enthusiasm and his banter with his mama as he selected and placed his flowers was so precious. Its always so sweet to listen to little ones chatter. I absolutely love the picket fence - what a wonderful idea! Perfect size for a little man.

Our local master gardener group created a zoo garden for the kids in the town park. Planted plants with animal names: Rabbit bush, butterfly bush, hens and chicks, pussy toes, lambs ears, skunk bush, catmint, etc. Put little ID tags so kids could identify them. So fun!

OH PLEASE LET US HAVE A BENJAMIN SHOW! Let him do a short garden tour of his butterfly garden. Would love to see a garden from his eyes. It will be so stinking cute to hear his names of things and such. Even if it is like 2 min on the end of your vlog!

That kit where you make your own fountain would be super cute in here! Like if you and Benjamin made a fairy garden together using that fountain kit from idk like a year ago in an unboxing.
omg how special (course thats a time commitment tho)

Beautiful addition and love Benjamins enthusiasm. Please tell me how you can plant so much lavender that stays pretty. Mine always turn a grey at the base and never produce the lush plant. I am in zone 7.
