Storm Aftermath: Cleanup & Blue Spruce Removal Garden Answer James: I just planted a 6-foot hoopsii and the trunk is pretty wonky right at the base of the trunk. From the top of the tree its pretty straight but right at the base of the trunk it twists to one side (its practically an L-shape. The root ball kind of fell apart as I was putting it in, which allowed me to examine it a bit closer. There werent a ton of roots like with other trees Ive planted. I could stick my whole hand under the trunk because like you said they dont have a taproot. I went ahead and planted it but Im concerned about its stability and longevity. It has plenty of space to grow into its full size but I planted it in one of the corners of my property line, so its not really in a good place if it were to ever fall over once its 30-50 feet tall. We dont get winds like you do, and there are green giants (mine) and pines (neighbors) on either side to act as a wind break potentially, but still. If it were to ever fall, and fall backwards or to the right, it would not only crush my fence but it would fall across my property line into a neighbors yard. Should I be concerned? Should I have planted something different? We really wanted a blue spruce. Im a little worried. The tree wasnt cheap and it was a pain planting it because there was an old oak tree that we took out, so there are old roots everywhere and we have heavy clay soil. I really dont want to re-do it, but Id rather do that now than to leave it as is and have to suffer major consequences later. Any thoughts everyone? Thanks!

I would have totally had that tree removal company check out that juniper tree on the West side of your house, I think it's the West side. The tree that you and Aaron went around to check to see if it was still standing. If you're having any trepidation about whether that tree is firmly rooted in or dying I would have it looked at immediately. Because like you side, if that tree comes down, it could very well come down on top of your house. And I don't want to see you guys to move anytime soon, you've invested too much into this property.

That storm hit up here too. Thankfully I did not have damage. The hail frightened my kitties. It was so loud on the meta garage and carport roof. I was running around closing windows as the winds were driving the rain in. It was crazy how fast the storm came in and then left. I just barely got all the windows closed and floors mopped up and it was over. i was so hoping for a good couple hours of rain. So sorry you lost your tree. As you say just more opportunity for Gorgeous garden adventures. If any one can pull it off you can.

It's sad when you lose a big statement tree like that. We had to take out our 70ft+ California Sycamore almost 2 years ago due to Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer infestation. It was a beautiful twin-trunk tree that attracted all kinds of birds. One trunk fell into the neighbor's yard, taking out part of our common fence and racking their balcony. We were grateful no one was hurt and there wasn't more damage. Looking forward to seeing what you do in that newly available space.

The other night we had a strong wind condition to a night of rain. It took the plant hanging on the end of a pipe i rain between 2 heavy hooks in the frame id my pordh. I foynd it cleaned the dying out of my seasonal pot. Next month i will buy mums to fill both of them and the container on my wall i bought all 3 at Lowe's. Then i will replace the mums with new plants durning the winter months.

Great camera footage on this video, as always. I don't think people realize how much work goes into doing this video, to drop everything when the guys showed up and get the drone going. The drone footage and your angles doing clean up alone. I'd love to watch a video on how you film a video from start to finish. I appreciate all the behind the scenes that goes into your videos

Sorry about the loss of your favourite tree. This times 10 is what we in St. Kitts, the Caribbean, deal with every hurricane season which is between June 1 to October 31 every year. Right now we are monitoring a weather system that can develop into a tropical storm in the next 36 hours but my trees are pruned and ready as the garden always seems to flourish after a good rainfall.

So sorry you lost your favorite tree, but I know you will transform this new space in the garden into something really beautiful! Thank you for doing what you do it inspires so many people.
