(Fixed the Audio) Late Fall Planting! Garden Answer Caroline: Love the planting videos, and all the info about each plant! In Vermont, we have problems with winter burn on all of the golden Arborvitae varieties (like Thuja 'Sunkist') due to our strong, cold winter wind drying out the foliage. We can only plant them in very protected sites even though they are technically hardy (based on zone) in our area. We even have trouble with winter sunburn due to bright sunlight reflecting off of the snow. With your intense wind and exposed site, you might need to winter protect the 'Fluffy' Arbs with an anti-desiccant, or burlap.

You briefly mentioned lilacs which I know bloom on Oldewood but I am a bit confused about how to get them to best bloom. everything I read makes it sound like you need to trim off the blooms once they are done each spring? Also I do have a bloomerang re-blooming lilac which this year finally had a nice bloom in the spring but Ive never had it re-bloom. Am I supposed to deadhead the blooms once they are done and it will re-bloom again and again?

I love seeing more plants added to that space. I am continually amazed and inspired by everything you guys have gotten done this year! Off subject. But have you ever considered moving the chaise lounge from the sun porch to the back shade porch. Seems like it might be more usable in a shady area? Then you could add a fun seating area to the sun porch to enjoy this winter.

Hi Laura I have tried the landscape plan, as well as the plop and plant method, I am a visual person so plop and plant works best for me! Somehow landscape plans leave me disappointed! So thankful that you do this as well because I cant afford to put everything in at once which has encouraged me to start new gardens by growing my own plants and having fun!

it's so fun watching you both planting together, you make a terrific team. fully behind the smoke bush idea! i'm lucky enough to live just down the street from garden designer adam woodruff. he has 4 cotinus royal purple grace that flank his patio, and they are gorgeous. especially when mist from a rain fall hangs on the smoke

Im behind watching videos because Ive been outside trying to plant all my great discount plants lol. I have to admit I had a ninebark in a pot for 3 years before I finally planted it! I keep plants up against the house next to the dryer vent and most survive Michigan winters. Love the beautiful fall colors of your trees/shrubs.

Always enjoy your videos. So interesting that you mix it up enough to bring interest. Just a comment, just cannot understand why anyone would give you guys a thumbs down. If you don't like something, just move on to what you do like. That is what we do.
Have a great day and prayers for everyone feeling all healed soon.

Speaking of bulbs, I bought a few more than I know where to put. I know when spring comes I will see some holes and wish I had extra, but in the meantime, where should I store them? Would it be better to keep them in a fridge, in the freezer, or plant them in the raised vegetable garden and transplant later?

One of my favorite things about your videos is the knowledge I gain from you talking about what you plant. Have you ever thought of marketing a Garden Answer line. It would help us get our hands on the plants trees and shrubs we learn about. Maybe PW could introduce something like that?

I really love the placement of the Arbs! I also love how Laura can look at her landscape with all the falling leaves and see the beauty of the them whereas I would have seen just the work of having to clean them up. This reminds me to enjoy every stage of your garden.
